Forums - Microsoft - The UK has gone GAMING MAD - 22 million consoles in use, PS3 dead last

Gfk-ChartTrack, the Europe-wide sales-counting conglomerate that tracks how many games and how much hardware we've all been buying, has sad there are now a staggering 22 million games consoles in the UK.

That's an increase from January 2008's 13.5 million, a figure which presumably doesn't include all our childhood Mega Drives and SNESs that are sitting in mum & dad's loft. Nintendo sold 2.9 million Wiis between Jan 2008 and Jan 2009, Microsoft shifted 1.4m Xbox 360 consoles and Sony moved a rather poor 1m PS3s, making it a stellar year for all involved in shifting "units" to "the kids."

Meanwhile, famed self-promoting "industry analyst" Michael Pachter from Wedbush Morgan says he's sure both Microsoft and Sony will cut their prices further during 2009 - rather un-shockingly predicting a $100 cut for PS3 and a $50 reduction for Xbox 360.

1. This should be in sales
2. That is 22m current games consoles (no PS2 included)
3. The total figures I have seen elsewhere are in line with VGC, so good job ioi

and Ahcheng takes another swipe at sony :) As long as that's possible, you'll post it, huh? :)

I give you a maximum of two days before you get banned again :)

400K less than 360 in a country where 360 has been more popular since launch & half the price aint poor

but whatever....

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

The most misleading title in the history of mankind.

If those figures are correct, something close to 15 million of those consoles are PS2's.

Dead last for Sony.

Losing by 400k. lol. And a year later launch.

And if anything, it should be in Nintendo discussion, given Wii is in 1st place.

But looking at the Topic Creator, expectations should be low.

 Sums up this thread.

Weirdest thing though is the fact that my country (Belgium) only has 10 million people in it, and it has cleared 300,000 PS3 consoles at the end of 2008, while the UK (60 million inhabitants) only clears 1 million >_>

The totals in the OP are not the overall totals, check N4G for the real totals, and actually VGC is pretty much spot on here, PS3 is at about 1.8m

Well this thread was obviously to show how great some consoles were doing and to bash those not going well. So with that said time to move this thread to Nintendo discussion. All the local Game, Gamestations etc Nintendo rule all.
