Well, I havn't played either, but this is what i would expect from what I have read about both.

Graphics = Bio
User Interface = MP3
Total Gametime = MP3
Multiplayer = Bio
Sound = Bio
Overall Score = Bio (MP3 will get knocked down due to wii biased, though it will be one of Wii's highest, if not highest rated games thus far)

Love BioShock winning "multiplayer"!

Two you forgot:

Story = Bio

Atmosphere = Bio

So if BioShock has a higher overall score than Metroid it will only be because the hundred or so game review sites out there have some sort of collective anti-Wii bias?  The current score for BioShock is 98.1, obviously it will fall somewhat... but you're really saying what will keep Metroid from beating that score is not that it's a ridiculously high score that would be tough for almost any game to beat, but instead some sort of industry-wide anti-Wii bias?  And of course you will provide no factual evidence to support your conspiracy theory, correct?  So, that's really the rationalization you're choosing to go with here?  Really?

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

Both games are bound to be great for their respective fans and will show off each system's strengths. And both will be fun to play. So what if Bioshock gets an average of 9.8 and MP3 gets a 9.7 or vice versa? You're bound to be happy with both (assuming you enjoy the style of each game).

That is really the key.  All either game has to do is get into the low 90s and they will both be a commercial and critical success.

Sites consistently rate Wii games lower because most aren't very good at this point. That's not a "bias", that is flat-out reality. TP was a wonderful game and Super Paper Mario was also great. Other than that, what "great" games has the Wii seen? Red Steel? Mario Party 8? Godfather? The list goes on...

I'm not bashing the Wii, I think it's a great system. But for the same reason that I walk away from my recent PS3 purchase with a "meh" feeling, it hasn't delivered great games. It doesn't mean that great games aren't coming and that ultimately the system won't be a jewel of gaming, it just means that right now, it hasn't really delivered on its promises. And frankly, I'm tired of hearing Nintendo fans defend this position. Those of us who bought an N64 felt this same thing for months after release. The same happened for the GC.

In short, the great games will come. Stop talking about how "your" system was shafted in the ratings or how you feel cheated because it doesn't get as much press love as it should. The press is generally unbiased and plays all games and if anything, the recent Wii success would give them better ratings, not worse. Blame the developers for putting out shit games, not the press.

Someone said it.

Edit: although it's only a short term problem for the Wii, it already has Zelda, RE 4 and Paper Mario and it will soon have Metroid, SSBB and Mario Galaxy.

But what about the PS3? It doesn't have a whole lot as of now besides Oblivion which is multiplatform (and 360 even got it earlier), and Lair may have serious problems.  Some were not impressed with the Heavenly Sword demo, if that disappoints what is left?  Uncharted and then nothing big until Killzone 2 in Q1 2008?

Well I agree with you mostly since I too played a lot of games in the FPS genre and I also agree with you that Halo has the most satisfying multiplayer experience since Mario Kart.

But, at least in my opinion, I find Metroid Prime's single player to be, quite frankly, amazing. And I thought it brought plenty of innovative things to the table like the atmosphere... specifically the cloustrophic atmosphere. The sense that you're totally ALONE in a humongous world. And that everyone is this said world is looking for you, to kill you. Metroid is one of the few still standing franchises that made a brilliant transition from 2D to 3D.

At least me and many others think so. It seems our opinion differs completely!

Our opinions don't differ so greatly. I said the MP series was overrated, yet I still called it a great game. It offered nothing extraordinary to me, but it was still a very good game.

This thread is about Bioshock vs. MP3. Bioshock, frankly, is going to beat the hell out of MP3. In fact, I think it's going to beat the hell out of every game this year. After playing through the demo three times, it's so amazing that I can't even comprehend what is coming next in the full game. It's revolutionary in its storytelling, something that Metroid held in the 80s and 90s but not now. Games have advanced yet in the Metroid series, I continue to get a lesser and lesser experience each time. Whereas each time I play another Mario game, it keeps getting better

 From someone who started playing Mario Bros. (not SUPER Mario Bros), that carries a lot of weight in it.

I'm not going to argue whether Bioshock is good or not because since all the reviews say more or less the same thing [that it's amazing] than it must be one hell of a game. But saying the 3D Metroids don't have revolutionary storytelling compared to their 2D counterparts [except Fusion] is plain out BS. The NES/SNES/ZeroMission practically had no story at all!!! Wth? The Scan visor [Chozo Lore etc] provided much much MUCH more story! I for one really like deciphering the Chozo lore :)

It is a hardcore game through and through. You will get your ass kicked by bosses. You will be stumped by the sometimes complex, but never overbearing, exploration.

Well I agree with superchunk. I'm sure Bioshock is pretty much awsome but still don't tell me that you haven't seen a anti-wii vibe in the reviews? EVERY reviewer has to compare Wii games to 360/PS3 games even though that is completely unecessary. You dont see them comparing the controls in 360/ps3 games to Wii controls do you? So even if Metroid is the best thing to happen to Wii [at least until Galaxy arrives] it won't get the high score it deserves.

And as I said before there WILL be at lest 70% [if not more] of reviewers who complain about the lack of onine multiplayer where up till now we don't see that same complaint for Bioshock. And I completely agree with Bioshock reviews. A game doesn't need to have online multi to be good especially when you have Metroid's high calibur single player game as well as Bioshock's.

I can't speak for MP3, but after playing a review copy of Bioshock, it's killer. It's better than 'Gears,' and is as good, if not better, than Halo and Halo 2 on single player. It is a fresh look at the FPS genre, hence why it's so hot right now. And even on easy, it's not hard to unlock achievements.

I have been playing since Thursday evening - it's sweeeeet!!!!

And in Bioshock, you really don't need multiplayer. It's strong enough on single player as is. While having multi would be sweet, the game is big and I'm not sure if it could be set up later to be multi.
