Forums - PC - It seems the experienced players of World in Conflict whine too much.

Last night, I was playing World in Conflict with my friend.  We are both somewhat novices at the game, and it took us a little bit to get on the same team.

After a couple rounds of assault, Me and another teamate picked support.  I saw that he got a few heavy anti-airs and believe that the team would not benefit from me getting more heavy anti-airs, so I got a couple of medium anti-airs and three medium artilleries.

Even though it was not in the rules of the match that I could not get artillery, I was kicked by vote because of the 3 or 4 more experienced players.  It wasn't even heavy artillery, just medium.

The person who started the vote to kick me was also complaining about all these "newbies".  From the way he talked, it seemed like he was one of those 13 year olds who had been playing the game since it came out and thought he was better than everyone else who played the game.

My point is, there are people like this in every multiplayer game.  People who think they are better than other people because they are more skilled, and people who complain when you use a certain weapon or unit.  Artillery units are part of the game people.  Massive Entertainment has not nerfed them or made them more expensive, which means the developer thinks they are not overpowered.  I think that maybe people cannot coordinate well enough to destroy artillery when they arrive and that is why it annoys them.  Has anyone else met these kinds of people?

All... the... time...

You'll see it everywhere, in any game that has online. It may be one, it may be a small or even large group of players. But they will claim to be better than everyone else, and whine whenever someone uses a tactic that defeats them. Its pathetic and drives me up the wall really.

The worst and most common case of it all?

"NO RUSHING"

If rushing was a bad tactic, games would have rules that would prevent such a tactic. For example, Supreme Commander has a No Rush option. Allowing the game to set up imaginary borders around your main base for 5, 10, or 15 minutes so you choose. So you can set up a good defence and enjoy a mid-to-late game.

In other games, this feature is non-existent. However, so often you'll get two mature gamers who can agree on a timer. Which is ok, a verbal pact is a-ok with me and I'll respect it if I choose to agree to your terms.

However, whenever you get someone who screams out at the start of a game.

NO RUSH
NO RUSH
NO RUSH
NO RUSH
NO RUSH
PLZ
PLZ

Well, I'm gonna Zergling rush you till your eyeballs bleed.

Then they call you a noob for not obeying their rules.

Anyway, just my observation, this post has gone on way too long. So if you excuse me, I see a ad for saving 40% off on great destinations from West-Jet.

Why must JRPG female leads suck so bad?

That's pretty common. Someone's always whining for someone else not playing as how someone else would like to. If you're a good player, you know how to deal with different type of strategies and that's why they exist, for people to use them.

@Nightstriker: Starcraft had pretty fun online and lots of people whining about the strategy used.

It's funny how you get called as a noob and five minutes later beat the shit out of your opponents.

Ei Kiinasti.

Eikä Japanisti.

Vaan pannaan jalalla koreasti.

Nintendo games sell only on Nintendo system.

i must be lucking out. i'm playing cod:waw on the 360 and i haven't been kicked once... and i'm terrible!

somehow i've managed to mute anyone who isn't my friend so i don't hear any chatter. this also has a downside that when i'm in a party with my friends and their friends, i can't hear them.

the gain definitely outweigh the loss.

I'd consider to be in the top 10% of players, but I'll be the FIRST one to pick up on cheap tactics, or if I don't I know how to counter them. I remember playing WC3 and I had built a base somewhere far off. And in the tournaments there's a time limit. Well I had a bigger army and was generally better well off, but then I decided to get a hold of yet another mine, a red dot creep, and that's when I got attacked. Well I jsut sent a few wisps away and made a new base. We ended up tying and on the scores I dominated him in EVERY category, yet he still started whispering me of how I was a noob for using that tactic and what not.

I'll be honest, I get a lot of lulz out of the "pros" who can't handle a cheap strat and foam at the mouth when I use it. DOTA is another example, esp with clinkz on the blue moons that i randomly get him. I swear, knowing somewhere is getting over a game because I made him angry, because he thinks he's so good but in reality he sucks.... Best feeling in gaming I've ever had.

yeah, that happens everywhere, so far I have never seen something like this in WiC, usually the best players in the team complain (who wouldn't?) but nobody was ever kicked in the servers I was. I don't know how many players were with you, but usually playing in a crowded server helps, the "pros" won't even notice you're there :P

the words above were backed by NUCLEAR WEAPONS!

That makes me think of something else. There are two different types of people who are good at playing strategy games: (not mutually exclusive)

Experienced: People who are good because they have played the game for long periods of time.

Skilled: People who are strategically minded and who are good at forming strategies and at countering enemy strategies.

Many players are both experienced and skilled, however there are people who have one but not the other. The one that I am making my point towards are the experienced players who are not necessarily skilled. These are players who have simply played enough to know the common tactics that other people have thought up for them. When someone does something new that is effective, they tend to label it as "cheap" and "unbalanced". They whine instead of devising a counter-strategy like a very skilled person would.

Of course, this is all my opinion.

Edit: I would also mention that in real life, the enemy may use any strategy they want to use, even if it is considered "cheap" or sometimes "immoral".  Think of the imfamous poisoning of the water supply.  Another thing to think about is that if you don't like a particular aspect of a game, maybe you should go find another game instead of whining about it.

Oh that goes FAR beyond just strategy games. I know that when I play SSBB with my friends they HATE it when I pick wolf because I'll just sit there and shoot, and when they get close I push them away, rinse repeat. They jsut don't know how to counter that. My point is, this goes for ANY game that has cheap tactics. Though it's most apparent in the strategy genre. I completely agree with your assessment. It's the experienced players I love griefing the most. The skilled ones, usually, don't bitch about it at all. They jsut kick my ass next game....

This thread reminds me of the whining people had regarding camping in Quake and other FPS. Someone would park themselves up in some high spot and snipe and take out players, getting some easy kills. And the players would complain it isn't fair. Well, unless a map is poorly designed, I personally believe that such whining is a sign of dumb players who don't know to avoid certain spots in the game. The reality is, people who snipe usually won't get enough kills to win.

I believe a mod called "Lithium" was added to maybe Quake or another game, that forced players to keep moving. This seems BEYOND lame to me. Sounds like adding a mod to enforce people playing poorly.

The reality is, short of hacks of games that only you benefit from, the idea is to use every advantage you can get in the game, to gain as many kills as you can, while minimizing your own risk of dying. Doing this involves strategy. And to whine about artillery being brought into a game, and booting, sounds absurd. Sounds just like the whining against camping.

Oh dude.... those chain gunners fucking SUCKED.... it was so hard to kill them with the spiral.... Cheap bastards... no skill at all.

I kid I kid. I rocked them with the spiral anyhow.
