Forums - Gaming - Sony advertise PS3 in 360 section at gamespot

lol, this is not a mistake. Its called targeting demographics. Using Dart or atlas ad servers you can target an ad to just about ayone and Sony paid good money to Gamespot for them to target MS visitors.

Also, this could be a retargeting ad...for example, if the surfer went to the PS3 page first, and then went to the 360 page...that ad exclusively gets called to remind the surfer..."hey, come back...we love you"

Its not a strange occurence it has happened before and will happen again in the future.

Why would Sony advertise their system in a place that most likely read by owners of their system? Odds are that the PS3 section is read by PS3 owners. Advertising there is a waste. However, if you advertise in your competitor's system, you can end up getting people considering a 360 to look at your system, and targeting 360 owners to consider buying a PS3. In politics, it would be like running advertising in battleground states, to try to win mindshare.

It is more effective use of advertising. NOW, if Sony had a specific new GAME for PS3 owners they want to promote, advertising in the PS3 section makes sense. Even promoting Home would work.

Gears of war 2 only got a 9!

Gamespot = joke

I hope my 360 doesn't RRoD

I don't think this is much of a shocker unlike the one MS did to the PS3 section. (I dunno if it's the same site though)

Anyway It was a PS3 section covered with 360 ads even the background a was swirl from the 360 box. Funny when it says it is the PS3 section when it's coated with 360 goodness.
