Forums - Microsoft - Star Ocean 4 hype thread #3: Score and Lifetime sales

650k Lifetime

200k in Japan
350k in NA
100k in Others

In the West - sales go down alot the more apparent the anime features become.  That's been an unfortunate harmful side effect for HD jRPGs.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

To be honest I haven't enjoyed many jRPGs this gen and I'm hoping this game doesn't suck. If it does, I"ll probably just skip it like I did IU and Remnant. I should've skipped LO as well so my wallet would be a little fatter right now.

[fat wallets are cool]

1.2M lifetime

But scores will be around 70-75% due to character designs as western reviewers don't like childish characters and SO looks to be even more Japanise in this aspect than the norm.

PROUD MEMBER OF THE PSP RPG FAN CLUB

300k for Japan is pretty much impossible.

Yeah Blue Dragon did 200k+ and it's a new franchise but it did get a lot of marketing there and the people there did see it as a Dragon Quest like game.

Tales of Symphonia sold 300k+ on both the GameCube and PS2, which makes the total sales 600k+ and Tales of the Abyss did almost 600k, while Tales of Vesperia has only sold 160k on the Xbox 360, and while likely get 180k LTS once it get's a budget re-release.

In the west the J-RPG fanbase is devided between the three consoles and there are a lot of J-RPG/ Star Ocean fans who will never buy a Xbox 360 simply becuase they are PS fanboy's who hate the Xbox 360. Yes, it's stupid, but that's the way it is. Anime-style J-RPG's also don't sell as good as they did a couple of years ago, even on the PS2.

I think about 1.3 - 1.5 million for Star Ocean 4

in Japan 300k - 400k
in NA 700k - 900k
in Other 300k - 400k

Infinite Undiscovery life time sale = 700k

The Last Remnant life time sale = 1 million

The only way this is remotely possible is if a ps3 version is released the day after the 360.

Scorewise, to be perfectly honest, I believe it all comes down to how it runs technically. TLR is a fantastic game from what I heard, but it got smashed by critics thanks to huge technical problems with the review copies.

it was also included in retail copies.

on topic, i think star ocean is the biggest so far jrpg thats gonna be released hype wise.

sites like famitsu will give it 38/40 - 39/40 anyways simply because of brand.

in western reviews i can see it getting a lot of 9`s many 8`s and a few 7`s i dont think it will go below that.

overall id say it will trundle in at about 8.8 in scores and lifetime sales should be 700k+ LO is only where its at because of mass unnoficial bundling, at the time when i bought my last 360 in the uk, nearly everywhere it came with a copy of LO.

if SO4 is mass bundled after initial sales, you may see it creep over a million easily.

mabey they wont buy a 360 simply because it wuld be stupid to buy another console just to play one game, if your talking about SO4 that is.

I actually own a PS3 and Wii, and I don't own a Xbox 360 simply because it doesn't have enough interesting exclusives for my taste, but there are a lot of people who actually hate one the console's.

Just look at the gamefaqs forums of Star Ocean IV, but here on the Vgchartz there is also a lot of PS3/ Sony hate going on lately. Essentially it's the same thing.

i think this game will sell pretty well it should sell at least 750-1.50 mil i think is a good if only a little broad
