Forums - Sony - Why I think the PS3 won't be discontinued (and why I may be wrong)

Sony failed a lot of things this gen (not including idiotic console e-peen races) but I see no reason for them to discontinue a console that they invested so much into and have a games division and a new media format relying on that 20 pound machine. Gamecube imo failed 3x as hard but was still a fun system and never was discontinued or N64 or SNES which all didn't do well in sales.

People act like because Sony finally comes in last place now they should all of a sudden give up and admit they're terrible. People like seeing the successful fail but I still don't see a reasonable fact why Sony would gain more from canceling the Ps3.

You know Sony getting one of their teams to bring out a game on the wii, or for them to port over a 1 year old exclusive would not be a bad idea.

I never understood how the Yen getting stronger can cause trouble? Can someone explain?

I might be (probably am) wrong about this, but if your currency gets stronger relative to other countries' money, getting other counteries' money doesn't matter as much. To illustrate:

Situation A; 1 dollar=100 Yen, Japanese company gets 100 dollars from overseas, translates into 10,000 Yen.

Situation B; 1 dollar=80 Yen (Stronger Yen), Japanese company gets 100 dollars from overseas, translates into only 8,000 Yen.

Now multiply that transaction several hundred thousand times, and you're quickly talking about lots of profits being lost.

If I misunderstood, someone please feel free to correct me.

I can't wait for Sony's financials to come so we can have this argument for the fiftieth time.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

I will honestly never understand why a hater takes so much trouble making this "analytical threads" trying so hard to make it look so carefully thought and reasonable, when we all know (and the hater knows better of course) that it's all crap and what he really means is : FUCK SONY AHAHAHAHAHA...whatever...

These "failed" consoles were all profitable, which is what matters in business. The PS3 can have more sales, but it's meaningless to the company if they can't get any money out of it. Sony seems to be in a very weak financial state, which is the reason all the "doom" threads have been appearing - I don't think the same could be said about Nintendo, even in their Gamecube days.

Well if Sony's gaming division is doing that bad, maybe just doing software is the way to go. They could make a lot of money putting Killzone, GT, etc on the Next Xbox.

NJ5 accually made a statement that I agree on..
PS3 isn't going to get discontinued.

1) The PS3 will be discontinued, as all consoles eventually are.

2) No one is saying the PS3 will be discontinued soon. At most people are saying that it'll never last 10 years.
