it selling fine, the 360 price cut will wear off, so its margin over ps3 in weekly sales should only be about 50k.

Are you being sarcastic?

no after a month, 360 should outsell ps3 by about 50-70k each week. right now its 80k. have you been sleeping lately?

Thats like me telling you to jump off a cliff and telling you " it will only kill you".

50K a week is no joke.

N64 is the ONLY console of the fifth generation!!!

welcome captain amazing! nice thread, i don't agree with everything you said but a nice read never the less...

the only thing that I say nay nay to is

"The size of the gaming library and the quality therein are the best of any console to date. There is no contest in this category." in reference to the 360

this is more opinion than anything, unless you have some avg rating of every game on the console compared to all others? which may be but they do not exclusively have any of the very best games this gen so far with the exception of Gears maybe. most of the best is going to be multiplat i think and a few exclusives thrown in.

This week was more or less an anomally.  Japan sales spiked because of their holiday tradition.  The Japan preview posted in the news section pegs the difference between the HD consoles at 2:1 to the tune of about ~30k collectively.  This week the difference was 3.5:1 with ~90k shared between them.

The difference in the US and Others was ~130k this week.  I think the 360 is more likely to hover around ~100k difference until the PS3 sees a price cut.

What's the likelihood that Sony even drops the price? It's suicide they haven't already, but then again, they drop the price and investors go into mass panic mode and then the share price drops.

Japan sales spiked because they are still angry at America for little boy and fat man, they will not buy an xbox. That's always been the case.

what about an ipod? Honestly Japan is not that simple. They don't only like to play JRPGs but at the same time, they seem to view FPS games with disdain. Perhaps they still see the 360 as shoterbox?

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

Very well could be. FPS on the xbox is aggravating. I'd be ticked too.

Comparison to an ipod is like comparing apples to a head of lettuce. It's not the same kind of device. That'd be like saying Japan doesn't buy the Zune vs Nano because it's american. No, it's just plain garbage.

Derixs,

I apologize for the confusion it appears as though I was unclear in my wording. I intended for it to mean retain "at least" its second place position. As you know, it was first in the previous generation and looked to be able to maintain at least a second place finish until this holiday season's numbers appeared to quell those hopes.

That makes much more sense. You really are Captain Amazing!!!  XD

Regardless of whether the gap shrinks or widens, I think it's fair to say that the gap will remain until the PS3 becomes more competitive in price point. The market is simply going to be too volatile for the next two years to accept the cutting edge over the average. In other words, it is clear to me that the level of risk aversion is too high for the PS3 to succeed at it's current price point which is why it continues to do only average (when other consoles are spiking) despite itself and any of its incredible games.

There was a thread for this here: http://www.vgchartz.com/forum/thread.php?id=56236

Most would agree that reasoning is flawed. They will not buy a 360 for many reasons, with the main one (imo) being the game library, which is weak in Japanese appeal compared to the PS3's.
