This week was more or less an anomally. Japan sales spiked because of their holiday tradition. The Japan preview posted in the news section pegs the difference between the HD consoles at 2:1 to the tune of about ~30k collectively. This week the difference was 3.5:1 with ~90k shared between them. The difference in the US and Others was ~130k this week. I think the 360 is more likely to hover around ~100k difference until the PS3 sees a price cut.

Regardless of whether the gap shrinks or widens, I think it's fair to say that the gap will remain until the PS3 becomes more competitive in price point. The market is simply going to be too volatile for the next two years to accept the cutting edge over the average. In other words, it is clear to me that the level of risk aversion is too high for the PS3 to succeed at it's current price point which is why it continues to do only average (when other consoles are spiking) despite itself and any of its incredible games.
