poor mans substitute ? that was last gen. |
No, it' still the poor man's substitute. The camera work alone in CGI cutscenes seems to be a step above in-game cutscenes. Animations tend to be choppier in-game as well. I too miss CGI scenes - I remember watching Chrono Cross scenes in awe.

True that! :P
I disagree. While i really like making CGI ingame rendering can be more fitting depending on the game. Think half life 2. Would have ruined the atmosphere.

lol, I just finished playing it a few minutes ago.
Valve does a great job of having all the action happening around you while not leaving first person.

Oh, I completely agree with half-life and hl2. Those tell their story in a certain way though, and in a way that most every other game does not. There have been many ludological studies into the original half-life's story telling mechanisms, believe it or not. Most games, however, narrate the story to some degree, where cutscenes are needed. In these cases I usually prefer CGI scenes for their aesthetic appeal.
interesting that they won't any cgi footage.

It would ruin the atmosphere of a fps like killzone 2 that already looks awesome. By switching from 1 set of visuals to another. It'd also be a waste of time and money to make.
