Hey! You probably recognize me as the administrator in charge of the moderators. Well I'm also head of the VGChartz review staff, and I'm looking to expand. The reviews are becoming a big part of the site operation, and I'm looking for people dedicated enough to review at least a couple of games a month.
So how do you take advantage of this great oppportunity you might ask. Well simply message me on VGChartz with a review sample. Make it your best work. Be sure your scores are reasonable and justified. For a look at how we score games just check out our other reviews. Keep in mind that the component scores can only be in .5 intervals, whereas the final score can be in .1. Don't worry about screenshots or anything like that. What I want right now is a sample of your writing.
Curently, we currently need reviewers for PSP and 360 only. So if you want the best chance to get a spot on the review staff look to those platforms. Being able to review on multiple platforms is of course a plus!
Some things I, as review head, look for in reviews:
I like lots of content. Go into detail, don't ignore any issues, explain what audiences the game may appeal to, and explain what audiences may be turned off by the game or its issues. Be careful with scoring. If you are reviewing a game you are giving a 9 to, I'm going to expect an extremely well-written and well-justified review. It's harder to justify 9-range scores than others. Remember: your favorite games aren't always the best games ever, just because they are your favorite games.
Your review samples will be read by me and the editing review staff on the staff forums. I am also looking for new copy editors (people who are able to do spelling and grammar editing), so if you are interested in that instead of or as well as a review position let me know!
