It's probably having trouble reading the disks.

I had a similar issue and my Wii eventually died and I had to take it in for repairs.

I have noticed a grinding noise getting more common when I play Brawl... im sared :'(

Mine did that about 2 or 3 times after I dropped my Wii with a disc still in it.

Hasn't done it since then though.

Now that i think about it, i think its more common when i play brawl too

Should ask Nintendo Tech Support, what you should do. I never hear noises really coming from my wii or ps3......360 on the other hand, and now the psp is annoying me as well.

Isn't there an issue with Brawl disc, because it's a DL DVD or something like that?

The Wii does make a louder noise when playing Smash. Could it be because of its double layered format ? Also, anyone who has played "Scarface" has witnessed some really scary noises coming out from the -otherwise- quiet Wii console. On the other hand I am under the impression that the wii is also making louder noises when its internet connection settings are turned on and it struggles to reach a bad wi-fi signal. I am not absolutely sure about that though.

My friend has the same problem as you. I don't know what to say other than contact Nintendo and see what they suggest/can do.

i've had that issue on-off for a while but it's had no ill effects and never had a disk read issue

I attribute it to the many parties it travels to :P
