Forums - Sales - Greenberg: Wii, Xbox 360 are really the two big winners but not for PS3

@ demotruk: well, since practically every dev has already said that multiplats are the way to go, they wouldn't have to do such PR anyway. This is basically just as big of a BS as the sony chart. Both have a sense of reality in them, it's just how you shake it.

...and sony's PR is the worst? lol

In this generation yes, it is. PR spin doesn't have to be accurate, but it does need to have a minimum of reasonability otherwise it becomes a joke.

Their current PR spin is not running-joke grade as it was in 2006-2007 (get two jobs to buy a PS3, PS3 = supercomputer, 4D gaming, the list goes on), but it's still pretty bad.

No, you missed my point. All PR=BS. It's a statement with a purpose of getting you to favor one product over another. We should think for ourselves. If people can think for themselves, I don't see why the need to argue about what company's PR is better/worse because PR would be irrelevant period.

With that in mind, bickering over whose PR is worse/better is meaningless just like a lie is a lie no matter how ridiculous one may sound relative to the other.

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

The objective of PR is to put an idea in people's minds. That's how we should judge PR, not on whether its claims are BS or not. In this way, it's fair to say Sony's PR has been the worst since this generation started. Their claims are too wild and unreasonable to catch on.

So now PR is being judged on whether it succeeds in putting an idea into people's minds, while this site and its visitors have always attacked PR based on its "truthfulness", but now all of a sudden, we're going to judge it, based on whether it succeeds in imprinting a vision into people's minds? (good luck finding that out then)

It's fine to judge PR on its truthfulness, and sure that happens a lot. However to judge whether it's effective or not you have to go a bit farther and look at its believability. When a company's PR becomes the butt of running jokes which last for months or years, it's pretty sure that it's failing.

I know you don't buy it, but the exact point of PR is to "imprint a vision into people's minds."  That's the whole point.  To control the image and branding of a product or comapny.  PR has nothing to do with being truthful or accurate or helpful.  It's about controlling images.

Can't we all just get along and play our games in peace?

Well, you could also look at it "as long as it keeps the company in conversations and have people talking about it", it has worked. That's another aspect of PR.

In that regard, Sony is winning by a long shot :p

Guess we're now at a point where we are spinning spinned PR to check whether spin is acceptable and spinnable >_>

i find it funny cause Final Fantasy started way back on a Nintendo console up until FFVI :O

That would be the "all publicity is good publicity" theory.

I don't buy that theory. Personally I think it may be somewhat true for small/unknown companies but not always for big and established companies.
