Forums - Sales - Greenberg: Wii, Xbox 360 are really the two big winners but not for PS3

In this case it is not smack talking just out of arrogance. It has a real useful function for Microsoft.

Images of winners and losers are important in this race.

Consumers will tend to gravitate towards the winning platforms due the the fear of short liftspan of the console and reduced title support.

Rigth now Sony is getting sticked with this "last place"/"loser" images and as a marketing guy he is doing all he can to reinforce this image of "Microsoft is winning and Sony is losing" as it directly translate to sales.

Prediction made on 11/1/2008:

Q4 2008: 27M xbox LTD, 20M PS3 LTD . 2009 sales: 11M xbox,  9M PS3

MS as usual with its wishful thinking.
I don't call having lost $2+ B being a winner. XB360 is a loser just like PS3.
It sure enough can't be associated with the Wii as a winner.
And they have 1.5 year headstart in Europe, so I wouldn't rejoice as much if I were them.
Or rather I would if I was not sure that 2008 wasn't the console's peak year.

The Winner is who takes first place... Second places NEVER were the winners.
Theese guys talk a lot of BS, they try to define 360 like a console to have with the Wii...

There is no "and" this generation. Nintendo is THE big winner. I don't know what MS is thinking, but they're getting raped much like Sony is.

Oh, puh-lease.

If this is a "real useful function for microsoft", then the "PS3 is cheaper than the 360" is also useful for Sony, as it shows their value compared to the 360 and that one could just as well pick up a ps3 if one wishes to have everything from the get-go.

yet, when Sony does it, it's trash talking and BS, but when MS does something, it's "a real useful function"?

Sure.

Well said. And the sales gap between the PS3 and 360 is much, much smaller than the sales gap between 360 and Wii. So God knows why Microsoft think they are in Nintendo's league. They are losers and Nintendo are winners, there's no way to spin that.

It's all about what catches on, what becomes a meme ie. an idea that spreads and potentially evolves through communicating that idea. There's little chance a meme will develop out of the chart Sony made, but there is a chance that XBox will be seen as the victor over Sony and that becomes part of the concensus, even though the reality is that the Wii kicked both their asses, and is where support will really gravitate(aside from former sony exclusives gravitating towards multiplatform).

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

...and sony's PR is the worst? lol

"Dr. Tenma, according to you, lives are equal. That's why I live today. But you must have realised it by now...the only thing people are equal in is death"---Johann Liebert (MONSTER)

"WAR is a racket. It always has been.

It is possibly the oldest, easily the most profitable, surely the most vicious. It is the only one international in scope. It is the only one in which the profits are reckoned in dollars and the losses in lives"---Maj. Gen. Smedley Butler

In this generation yes, it is. PR spin doesn't have to be accurate, but it does need to have a minimum of reasonability otherwise it becomes a joke.

Their current PR spin is not running-joke grade as it was in 2006-2007 (get two jobs to buy a PS3, PS3 = supercomputer, 4D gaming, the list goes on), but it's still pretty bad.

Neck and neck? They were getting hammered until they reduced the 360 to less than half the price of the ps3....

I believe both were hovering around the same sales figure...

No way, not in Europe. PS3 was outselling the 360 almost 2:1 before the price cut. In NA they were pretty much exactly the same until the 360 price cut.

This guy talks a lot of shit. Resident evil wasn't a "playstation franchise", it was on GameCube first last gen. I really don't like Microsoft PR at all. They always have to shit on someone. And trying to make out that they are winners like Nintendo... LMFAO.
