Forums - Sony - Saving up for a PS3. Few questions before I buy...

As you may know, I have been a longtime Nintendo Fanboy for all of my life. However, the recent PS3 exclusives have been catching my eye, and "teh blu-rayz." I had a few questions before I purchase it......

1. How likely is the price drop rumor going to happen? A simular scenerio happened when I bought a DS phat, the DS lite was announced a few months latter, and when I finally got enough for a lite, the DSi was announced a few months later.

2. What games would you recommend? I am already getting Motorstorm 2, Uncharted, and LBP. This is my first PlayStation console ever, and I like Nintendo-type games.

3. Same as #2, but for Blu-Ray. I already plan to get Dark Knight, and I like action, comedys, and drama.

1. If it happens, it'll be in March. but at this point it's looking pretty unlikely to happen. If nothing else, just wait until March to see if anything is announced. It's only two months away.

2. The only other game I'd say you have to buy is MGS4 (you have my two other favs, LBP and Uncharted).  I'd also highly recommend Ratchet & Clank Future and it's PSN counterpart, Quest for Booty.

3. The Dark Knight, Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, then endure the long wait for the Lord of the Rings like myself.

1- Very likely if you ask me. But hey, I'm just some guy on a forum, I don't work for Sony.

2- MGS4, Valkyria Chronicles and Resistance2 are also awesome.

3- Kung Fu Hustle, Casino Royale.

There are always rumors about price drops, but the fact is even though the price dropped on the PS3 two months after I bought it, I wasn't upset because of the amount of gaming I would have missed out on if I'd waited to buy it.
Looking at your game collection, I'd recommend Burnout, Folklore, Ratchet and Clank, The Last Guy, Hot Shots Golf. There are tons of demos available for download as well. Try a bunch out and you might even find a fun game in a genre you didn't even know you liked.

"This is the deep-dish, delicious irony endured by the Nintendo stalwart: to see their platform of choice ascendant, even as their bright God turns his face away."

Tycho Brahe

The rumor about the price drop is supposed coming some time in spring.

But considering that info came from the European region, it may only mean its focused for that territory.

However after the rumor slip, Sony (David Reeves) started to deny it alot, so I'd expect the price drop announcement to be moved to some time later on the year.

I recomend (aside from your suggestions):

Ratchet & Clank Future
Resistance Fall of Man
Resistance 2
Fallout 3
Call of Duty : world at war
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Prince of Persia
Dead Space
Metal Gear Solid 4
grand Theft Auto 4
Far Cry 2
Bioshock

Burnout Paradise

PSN:
Astro Tripper
Crash Commando
Pixel Junk Eden
Pixel Junk Monsters
GTI Club+
Tekken R: Online
Super stardust HD

I think it's nice how many people (mods inclusive) recommend violent games to a 14-year-old kid

@OP
I think you should get Killzone 2 in February......

Yeah I can remember playing Far Cry and Half Life 2 when I was 14. Good times !

1 reserve KILLZONE 2 at gamestop
2 get Wipeout HD from the PSN
3 THE DARK KNIGHT BLU-RAY
4 & definetly not least an HDTV & HDMI cord !!

1. With Sony's current state of affairs, I would say the odds are that a pricecut wont happen until late '09.

2. MGS4 (if you like story heavy games), Valkyria Chronicles (if you are even remotely interested in strategy games), Prince of Persia (it has some Nintendo-like qualities I think) and Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (and R&CF: Quest for Booty (PSN game), very good platforming)

3. Iron Man, WALL-E, Ratatouile and Planet Earth (this one is a nature documentary, 11 episodes of "making your investment worth it". Trust me, if there was anything that was ever worth buying a blu-ray player and a HDTV for alone, this would be it. It is a great documentary, with fantastic images. It is nothing short of jaw dropping!)
