Yes and the main reason you keep avoiding is the reason it surpass Halo is because it was a multi-platform game. Holy-hell that...

Of course it outsold Halo 3 because Call of Duty 4 was multiplatform. I never avoided anything. But it is crazy enough that were are even having this conversation. We will never know how much it would have sold as an exclusive.

@ Picko

And I've said, that on 360 Halo is bigger. Overall it isn't.

And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

MS should release a Halo3 bundle. Halo3 + ODST. Halo3 sales would easily reach 10 million that way. Well Halo3 will reach it anyway, but much earlier with such a deal.

Or a Halo-Overkill with Halo1 + Halo2 + Halo3+ Halo3: ODST That would be a great box.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

^^^halo 3 might sell more but COD:modern warfare 2 makes it sell less than what it could if released far apart from Modern warfare 2 .

Well, CoD4 outsold Halo 3. So that argument is out the window. WaW is going to pass Halo 3 as well.

This thread is comparing a multiplat game to an exclusive??? Anyways Halo 3 ODST will outsell COD on 360. If Halo was multiplat since the original I would expect Halo would see around 19-20 million sales every release. But it's not so we will never know. Also This is only an add on like Episodes of Half Life 2. Albeit Halo 3 ODST seems like a better edition than the 4 hours it takes to finish Episodes on Half Life 2.

There's really no way to know which franchise is bigger at this point. COD4 has considerably more sales when taking all platforms into account(everyone is forgetting that there are an unknown amoutn of PC sales too) but Halo 3 has outsold COD4 on 360. To give Halo 3 the advantage because it's exclusive is a bit odd. No one knows what the effect on sales would have been had COD4 been exclusive to 360 and Halo 3 was the multiplat. It's not a simple "more potential platforms means more potential sales". There is a built in mentality amongst consumers that exclusive titles demand their attention. You can argue against that, but sales history shows exactly that. Show me one multiplat leading the sales of any given console. With all that extra sales potential, surely multiplatform titles would be at the top.

To the OP, both titles will be absolutely fine. There is no cannibalizing environment on Xbox 360. Fable II and Fallout 3 co-existed. Halo 3 and COD 4 co-existed. COD 5 and Gears 2 co-existed. There is always room for games that appeal to similiar demographics to sell.

No, you're totally correct. I didn't realize GTA IV increased so much on PS3. I stand corrected. Something is very off with PS3 owners and their buying habits.

My point, which I guess I didn't properly flesh out, is that while multiplats may have more selling potential overall, their worth is diminished by the fact that they are multiplatform in the first place. Someone does not need to buy a 360 to own COD4 but they do to play Halo 3. If COD4 were to be only on 360, it's worth would probably go up on that console. The same as if Halo 3 were multiplat it's ability to sell a 360 would be diminished as there would now be a choice of what to purchase it for.
