Forums - Sales - The PS3 return ? Exclusivities won't help ...

What I see is a sales point.

Having good exclusives and being able to say that those games are only on your platform does indeed help the console.

Being able to say "Halo? Gears of War? You'll need a 360 for that" IS helpful for the 360.

It may not be the deciding factor for most people, but the more you have, the more enticing your console may become.

Of course, if you go "we have HAZE!" you won't score a lot of good points, but the fact that several games only come on one console does push quite a number of people towards a console.

Add in good marketing so that people actually know that certain games are tied to a specific console and you've got yourself a winner.

The 360 has good marketing and knows that tying big hits like GoW with "exclusive" helps.

Sony, with their usually arty-farty ads doesn't come through at all, which makes having good exclusives (you can't deny that they have them) less striking, as people will often go "uhm... what game are you talking about? LittleBigwha? never heard of it".

(good) Exclusives + decent marketing = what sells consoles.

You guys honestly believe that the Wii is selling for any reason other than it having the game lineup that most gamers prefer

That and other reasons...

Yes I do

For the me, the genius behind the great sales of the Wii, is the fact that Nintendo adresses a totally new consumers segment.

Evan Wells (Uncharted 2): I think the differences that you see between any two games has much more to do with the developer than whether it’s on the Xbox or PS3.

Not quite. Exclusives will help but its not as simple as this...

I predict God of War being near the only console system seller in the west this year for the PS3, based on what we already have because--

Just like we were told thousands of times by Sony fanboys, Gears 2 will not move consoles because everyone who owns wants it already has a 360. So this rules out Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, even to a point God of War and Killzone 2, as they also said Halo 3 wouldn't move consoles. And if Halo 3 can't do it, damn near no one can.

Other then that I can't come up with any other first party exclusives right now.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

Dont care.

As long as I have a great backlog of games for my PS3 both exclusives and multiplat, I am a happy camper.

I dont dine on exclusives alone, I just buy whatever I am interested in. KZ2 and RE5 cant come soon enough.

Yep. I bought mine with a GRAW2 (multiplateform) bundle. All the boxs were sold within 3 weeks (and it was 2,5 years ago..).

hum,

I will summize saying :

"Exclusivities won't help THAT MUCH ..."

Indeed, u have to consider every IP separately, some may generate momentum, some may not.
If Sony is lucky, they will succeed to bring an IP that can generate some hardware sales (like GoW2). Same goes for MS.

spell check*

Also, I will agree because I know several people who have bought their consoles because of the games (exclusives included).

I think the real issue is that they cannot drop the price, but they are adding value by giving you a reason not to buy 360.

What a pointless spell check, if you're gonna correct someone, at least do it correctly...

"System Sellers" generally do not boost hardware sales in the way that many people expect ... As soon as a game is announced and until a system is discontinued a game will factor into people deciding to buy a system. Outside of the initial boost there generally isn't a change in the level of how a system is selling because of a game being released over the long term.

There are exceptions ... A game with no real following can be released to a system and attract the attention of people who never considered buying the system before. The best examples of games like this would be Nintendogs or Brain Training for the Nintendo DS.
