Every price-drop that Sony does, can be answered by Microsoft. Eventually prices will get closer to each other. By time Microsoft's answer will be weaker.

even Microsoft can spend a ton of cash. There is still a point where even if they make minor profit stockholder wont will expect more. Microsoft's entertainment division still has to pay off the original Xbox's hole too so wait and see.
Even if Sony can catch MS, the earliest possible point would be some time in 2010. At that point will it really matter? MS will have been the leader/second for pretty much the entire run of this generation. If Sony can somehow sell a few more units at the end, when focus is switching over to the next generation, it won't retroactively invalidate all the damage that MS [and Nintendo obviously] have managed to do over 3-5 years. Again, that's if Sony can catch MS, which is starting to look more and more difficult.
I think a lot of people are just holding out on a PS3. I am definitely planning to own one, but I'm waiting for two things...
1) Price Cut
2) God of War III
PS2 BC would be nice too.
I want Sony to stay in the home gaming console business. I just think maybe they were too ambitious/arrogant at the start of this generation. But now that the blu ray debacle is over....and the format has succeeded...I'm sure eventually they will make a nice recovery...
But Microsoft will surely keep them on their toes and Sony will do the same for Microsoft in the future
Off Topic: I wonder what HD optical media format nintendo will take advantage of in their next console...

Squilliam: On Vgcharts its a commonly accepted practice to twist the bounds of plausibility in order to support your argument or agenda so I think its pretty cool that this gives me the precedent to say whatever I damn well please.
