Some gamers were saying a new 360 would come out in 09. Guess they're wrong (or else, we'd have ramp-up for it, and not a ton of new 360 exclusives this year).

I'd venture to say the next Xbox will be 2011 or 2012. The longer the better - I want to make sure I get a lot of gaming from my X360 that I paid $150 for.

XBox released in 2001. Went on life support May 2005. Dead by January 2006. Lifespan - 4 years.

Unless MS has a big surprise to announce in the next few months, this is the most obvious announcment since Sony admitted they announced Home too early.

Well duh... it'a already 2009, it only needs to complete this year without a new MS console for that to come true.

The Xbox lasted four years before getting a successor. Why would the Next Xbox be released in 2009?

If the Valhalla based Slim/Lite/Whatever comes out towards August-Oct 2009 then it will extend the life of the 360 console another 24+ months easily.
I don't expect a 720/XBox3 until 2012.
The time length for HD game development will mean that this generation lasts longer than previous ones. The only reason they may push it forward to 2011 is if they lose momentum or if they hear that the PS4 will release in 2012 and they want another year head start.
