Forums - Gaming - Game Informer gives BioShock 10/10 and 10/10

1UP: 10/10

"...taken as a whole, as an experience that's richly and utterly complete, and one that engages the player in a constant dialogue, BioShock is virtually unassailable."

We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that they [developers] want, because 'easy to program for' means that anybody will be able to take advantage of pretty much what the hardware can do, so the question is what do you do for the rest of the nine and half years? It's a learning process. - SCEI president Kaz Hirai

It's a virus where you buy it and you play it with your friends and they're like, "Oh my God that's so cool, I'm gonna go buy it." So you stop playing it after two months, but they buy it and they stop playing it after two months but they've showed it to someone else who then go out and buy it and so on. Everyone I know bought one and nobody turns it on. - Epic Games president Mike Capps

Cool, I guess I'll have to check it out whenever it gets to the PS3. I'm gonna try to get my friend at work to pick it up though so I can see it before then!

The game has the "only for xbox/pc" branding on the box, so have fun waiting for it to hit the PS3.

 It does?

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

Yeah, this game looks to be one of the best FPS's in a long time. I think it will definitely be better than Halo 3.

Hmm yes in certain ways it will be, and overall yes because its a more unique new game. But Halo will always be a favorite cause of multiplayer, while bioshock looks to be fantastic because of just its normal gameplay and game

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

Yeah, it does

I'll take the real box over an old press mockup anyday. And if you think I did a quick photoshop, check this thread of GAF to see tons more pictures of the exclusive sticker on the retail box. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=180435

Maybe paying for exclusives is a good strategy, especially when you have a potential GOTY

IGN: 9.7 / 10

"Irrational had a clear vision with this game, something pulled off with remarkable precision in every department. They didn't just deliver something that's fun to play, a criterion so often cited as the benchmark of what makes a game worthwhile. BioShock stands as a monolithic example of the convergence of entertaining gameplay and an irresistibly sinister, engrossing storyline that encompasses a host of multifaceted characters. This is an essential gaming experience."

10 Presentation
An intriguing, well-written story delivered with at a precise sense of pace. It doesn't get any better than this.

9.5 Graphics
It may not be as technically impressive as Gears of War, but the art style, animations, and special effects create an unparalleled sense of mood and believability.

10 Sound
Top-notch voice acting, spectacular ambient effects, and overall some of the best sound design ever built into a game.

9.5 Gameplay
Superb control, intelligent enemies, and a wildly entertaining mix of weapons and plasmids.

9.0 Lasting Appeal
A lengthy adventure, 20 hours or so if you don't rush it, yet there's enough variation in the gameplay to bring you back for another round.

9.7 Incredible OVERALL

Team Xbox: 9.5/10

"It’s rare to find a game that has both quality in its engineering and quality in its gameplay. But BioShock is certainly that in a nice package. Best of all, it sets the bar high right at the start of the pre-holiday season, in a year when we’re expected to see a lot of Triple-A games. At the end of the year, let’s see if they belong in the same ocean as BioShock."

shacknews apparently doesn't give out numerical scores:

"It is not often that I play a game, as an adult, and truly feel that, yes, this is something different, something appropriate. BioShock could be played as a brain-dead shooter, but even then, gamers might still unintentionally glean something meaningful from it. It is impossible to enter the world of Rapture without feeling something. The game screams at you to look--See this! Know this! Think! It is immersive and impressive. It is elegant and ugly. And it is here for you to enjoy and play and appreciate in any way you see fit."

There goes my bet...

Please let Metroid get lots of 100%s too!

Probably not. As a "half gen" game, it will be very hard to score high on graphics and sound, unless they grade on a curve (some will, some won't), especially since there are so many FPS to compare it to. Plus it's a sequel, and so far, the gameplay doesn't look all that different from the last 2 entries in the series (indeed it was one of the few criticisms of Metroid Prime 2). The saving grace will be the controls which, if delivered as promised, will boost the game play scores.

If there is any game Wii that I expect to earn 100s it's Mario Galaxy. Not only do I expect some built in (albiet unintentional) bias for it, it looks tohave the Wiis best graphics and, unlike MP3, won't have a lot of same-genre competition on the 360 and PS3 to bring the score down.

Nice to see Irrational get some credit.
