Your asking this on a PS3 dominant site, so for the most part people will lean that way. However, if you are really interested just do some google searches and find out which console is geared toward you by its exclusives.

I own both but play my 360 95% of the time due to my friends list on live. Do you have any friends already online? If you have a majority of them playing on a certain console go with that. Because gaming is really meant for more than one person to take part at a time!!

Like others have said, please don't listen to anyone on here who tells you to get a 360 or a PS3. They should be telling you to

A) Look at both the games library's
B) Look at both consoles features
C) Price (whether you can afford to splash out or not)
D) What console the majroity of your friends have (If you want to get into online gaming)

Ask yourself these questions:

1- Do you care much about Blu-Ray?
2- Do you care about PS3's exclusives more than 360's exclusives?

If Yes to both, get a PS3.
If no to the second one, get a 360 along with a standalone Blu-Ray player if you want one.

Congrats, the 360 really does have a lot going for it and to beat it all its cheap!  If you have a netflix account go ahead and get live gold its worth the price of live just to easily download hd netflix movies to your tv easily.
