Are you referring to it being bad news for Playstation fans (lower chance of port since IU hasn't come out on PS3), or bad for Star Ocean 4?

In the latter case, we can make the argument that just because an engine is used in 2 different games, does not mean that since one was bad, the other will be.

Take Unreal Engine, for example. There are some marvelous examples of uses for the engine - Mirrors Edge, Bioshock and Gears of War are all 3 exceptional UE3 titles. Of course, then, you do have crappy games that used UE3 such as The Last Remnant (from a technical standpoint at least. The game is still awesome from a gameplay PoV), Hour of Victory, and Turning Point: Fall of Liberty.

Now, from a JRPG standpoint, you can look at Namco's Eternal Sonata and Tales of Vesperia which used the same engine...Which is the proof that just because 2 games can use the same RPG engine, that it doesn't mean both are doomed to mediocrity - the former (ES) was rather mediocre, but gorgeous, while Tales of Vesperia was a near-masterpiece and executed on virtually every front - visually, storyline, technical, and so on.

So if your worried that just because IU uses the same engine, it'll suck, should be thrown out the window. There are plenty of other prescidents of games using similar engines and the successor being wholly better (Fallout 3 is also another current game that used an older engine - Oblivion - and created a far better game).

IU didn't look too bad from what I've seen.

 

IU suffered from being rushed out the door.  Look at the technical issues.  Also, compared to SO4, IU looks like it could have been done of the original Xbox in terms of graphics.  IU looks like it was originally a PS2 or an Xbox game that got ported to the 360 while SO4 actually looks like it started development on the 360.

 

Textures - yup, XB1.

Shaders and special effects however, belong in the 360 world.

I can't believe that you actually think I mod. I don't. I have the mod title because:

  • I helped create the prediction league
  • I post news articles such as XBLA data
  • I was one of the first members of VGC

That's it. I use my mod power maybe twice a week, and 90% of the time, it's to lock/sticky threads. I rarely ban people (I'd argue I use it the least of any mod). If VGC staff wanted to take away my mod title, it's entirely fine.

What burns me up is that this thread, like every 360 thread, got hijacked by the Sony Defense Force of people that don't care about the 360, and only want to post 'can't wait till it comes on the PS3' and cling to all kinds of baseless hopes - that they argue are sound. That's what leads me to get upset. As a mod, I could ban them, but that'd be unfair, wouldn't it? So what am I supposed to do? Vent my fusterations over a fanbase that hates the 360 more than they love their own system? Or do something else?

No. I don't like it when X360 owners cling to MGS4 coming to the 360.

Remember what Square Enix said about needing 2-3 million sellers? Yeah, that's not going to happen with a 360-exclusive JRPG.

There. That's my problem. We try to have a reasonable discussion about the merits of the interview, and it gets turned in to (from the VERY FIRST REPLY) into a 'it needs to come out on PS3' thread. Not a discussion of the interview, but a lot of PS3 fans jumping in on either attacking the game, or saying they'll wait till it comes to the PS3.

And therein lies my problem: We can't have a reasonable discussion as 360 owners that actually have a chance of buying the game, but rather Sony hopefulls that will either deride the game since it's not on their system, or discussion about how it needs to come to their system. I dont think, as a 360 fan/owner, that it's really justifiable that every thread gets derailed.

There. That's why I 'troll' on a X360 post (also, if I was trolling, doesn't that mean I make a 1-off dumb statement and not back it up? Maybe we're thinking trolling is a totally different thing). There have been a total of 8-9 Xbox 360 owners talking about the game in this thread, and 9-10 PS4 owners talking about wanting it to come to the PS3, attacking, me, or generally posting about the Playstation 3......Is that really nessicary for a X360 exclusive game?

Why is it that more Sony fans are posting in this thread in the Microsoft forum than X360 fans? Please think about that before you attack me, or claim I'm a troll, flamer, ect. This is the Microsoft, Xbox 360 forum.

It's called 'buying an Xbox 360'. You really should try it some time. Why wait for something that never may happen? Take control, and buy a 360 and get more than 1 exclusive a year that matter.

I sort of agree. I'm a fan of Star Ocean, and I would rather get it the day it comes out rather than waiting a year getting it. So yeah, I've jumped in :) The others should do the same if they're a fan of the series or highly anticipating it unless money is an issue, but they own a PS3, so it shouldn't be a problem ;D
