Forums - Microsoft - Is 360 hate in Japan still because of the war?

This is the worst reasoning I have ever read.

Ever.

Yes, the other day I was at McDonald's in Tokyo and I hear two ipod-wielding Japanese saying how much they hated the 360 because of the war.

Unfortunately then they had to leave to watch The Dark Knight at the cinema, so I couldn't hear the rest of the conversation.

Ive heard some strange things about their history. Apparently noone discusses what happened at the end of WW2. Its just not talked about in history classes, maybe at university.

Some deal with the indigenous minority Ainu?, no one talks about it. Maybe its got to do with what someone else said, the collectivist democracy ideal, you don't rock the boat or behave independantly because of the groups importance.

On topic. No, i dk for sure but i think japanese today don't care, they don't seem to give a shit about their extremely conservative governments so why the 360?

“When we make some new announcement and if there is no positive initial reaction from the market, I try to think of it as a good sign because that can be interpreted as people reacting to something groundbreaking. ...if the employees were always minding themselves to do whatever the market is requiring at any moment, and if they were always focusing on something we can sell right now for the short term, it would be very limiting. We are trying to think outside the box.” - Satoru Iwata - This is why corporate multinationals will never truly understand, or risk doing, what Nintendo does.

Yea, it's always why they don't like shooters, it reminds them of that war. Infact, I hear there lives revolve around the war. They are a very conserved and bitter society.

Ill just throw this out there. Maybe its the US presence in japan, theyve been there for 50 years. Wouldn't that be influential to a degree, aka. baseball?

Doubt it. It seems to me there are many things American that Japanese like, I can't imagine the gamers would be carrying a grudge.

I am guessing part of it is due to ethnocentrism - just as Americans like to promote "buying American" (though we often don't), the Japanese likely have a natural bias towards Japanese products.

The rest is likely cultural. A Japanese company making Japanese products for Japanese people is more likely to understand what that market wants than an American company.

I've heard (and have no way of knowing - would love to know though) that some schools teach that Pearl Harbor was an elaborate trap set by the Americans to start a war.

I really doubt WW 2 is a factor at all.

Of course it is. They lost the war and we know Japanese hate losing. Look at Sony for example, it needs western intervention to survive!

Ignorance at it's finest.  A ban well-deserved.

I've been living here a while.  And the answer to the original question is a big NO.  The younger generation don't even think about World War 2 when thinking about Americans.

Later tonight, I will probably be heading to the local Starbucks here in Kumamoto.

Many Japanese people are absolutely crazy about Avril Lavigne.

"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY."  --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

Conservatives:  Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

Ya just like cigarettes and Coca cola dont sell there at all. Its more buy american keep americans working buy japanesse keep locals working.

Huh? So, you're judging the Japanese people, based on video games...okay.
