They should just try making some PS3 RPGs.

exactly. I mean they want to sell games but as far as I know they produced only xbox exclusives up until now. I don't want to flame xbox. It's just not popular in japan.

The Wii has several times the userbase of the PS3 + 360 in Japan combined and that lead gets bigger every week.

Shouldn't the Wii by this standard get the most support? I guess Dragon Quest X is a very big start though.

If the PS3 had 7.5 million userbase, the Wii was at 3 million, and the 360 at 800k ... PS3 fans would be whining all day about not getting support.

When it comes to Japan, Square-Enix needs to face reality. Nintendo won this time around and Sony is not catching them or even coming close.

I know they made a killing off of FF:CC Mlaak, I also know they were content with FFCC:RB, Chocobo Dungeon was probably a lower budget that Mlaak =P and I believe it still sold over the 300k mark, then of course Dragon Quest Swords which was a great game and sold very well. Hmm I wonder what they are talking about... Chocobo Dungeon? They must still think people who own a Nintendo handheld own a Nintendo console; they thought that also for FFCC (GC) but that still broke a million.

Yea, I'm all for change in the formula of video games, but hearing the developer of FFCC:CB talk about expanding the single player made me wonder what the hell he was talking about?

If he can make the single player kick ass then fine, as long as when the multiplayer component is applied I kick ass just the same but also with 3 friends or more that can kick ass too and in their own way.

I'm a bit puzzled on why that game was delayed almost 3 times so far, I saw a release date for it in April 2008 then June 2008 then it vanished, rumors of a Christmas 2008 release were made.... I just know that game better come out before MH3 because MH will claim the MARPG segment of the Wii.

I think Square-Enix realized that the Wii was going to be bigger than they thought and needed a 'traditional' RPG for it, so that's probably why they changed Crystal Bearers to a 1-player centric title. Probably had to start from scratch.

Echoes of Time seems to be basically their solution to the multiplayer Final Fantasy concept.

^ I know, thats what I'm afraid of, SE has a habit of believing that DS owners = Wii owners or (Nintendo handheld owners = Nintendo console owners.)

Simplicity sais that yes these people would buyt a Wii or a DS to do the same thing, which is to play games, the reality is that they buy them for different reasons. If a person should have both a DS and a Wii then logic would dictate that given the option, a player at home would choose the Wii over the DS and when on the go or away from the Wii they would choose the DS, their is a fundamental reason for that, the only time this isn't accurate is when their is no viable software on the Wii versus the DS.

I know that FFCC (GC) also had a single player component that was half baked at best but was supported heavily by the multiplayer component. Hence why the definition of the game by those who play it know it was as multiplayer game because thats where you could get the most out of it.

Sega (all be it Sonic Team) released PSU in the shadow of PSO doing the same thing, and well... look at PSU. Except PSU/PSO didn't have to carry the burden of supporting a whole other platform with in it's current platform.

To summize, this probably won't end well.

and wont games like dragon quest 9 and final fantasy 13 correct this issue this year surely these 2 new iterations of massive franchises should do 5 million at least between them

DQ IX will probably do 5 million on its own in Japan before the year is over

No, no it won't. DQ 9 will be huge, but I will not do too much more than the DQ8.

Face it, Square-Enix SUCKS

Yes, it's true. SQUARE-ENIX SUCKS

Its basically just Enix with a handful of lingering inconsequential Square staff trying to follow in the footsteps of what Square-Soft once was.

Sakaguchi is gone, the director of FFXII is gone, Nobuo Uematsu is gone, Yoshitaka Amano is gone, more than 75% of the original Square-Soft staff are gone.

If Square-Enix wants to see these sales figures like 2-3M then try making good games and stop with all flashy guady prententious visuals as a substitute for substance.

Stop making remakes of your past glory you'll never be able to truly relive.

Stop making spin-offs and cell-phone games of everything you do.

Stop screwing over the west by not fully localizing your products.

Stop screwing over the west by never releasing the special or expanded editions of your games here.

Stop making every game a visually and thematically shallow copy of FFX.

Stop outsourcing projects to underperforming independent developers like Tri-Ace.

Stop producing games that all look so generically inseperable that "belts", "hot-topic" and "emo" can be used interchangeable to describe any Square-Enix title.

Stop using the same faces and models for every game, we can only stand Tidus and Yuna being the main characters of every game so much.

I hope FFXIII is straw that breaks the camels back and forces Square-Enix to give up on Final Fantasy. Maybe they should try making their own thing instead of riding the dead coat tails of a single franchise.

nah, I wouldn't say that SE sucks. at least they released TWEWY. The best rpg this gen and one of the best in this decade(IMO)

It's the same with nintendo. if they hadn't release Mario galaxy this gen then nintendo should have just died. I was once a nintendo fan but now I can forgive them for everything they did this gen just because of galaxy.

I can forgive SE just because of TWEWY. :)

Bah, SE has some many teams and employees, they've put out games ranging vastly in quality. TLR wasn't terrible but it was made by the Mana team. IU was made by Tri-Ace. We've yet to see a game from the FF13 team.

And Onimusha, you have nothing to backup your idiotic statements regardless that 75% of the staff is gone.

I'm not designing my own game here, but if Sqaure can just revent the Mlaak world map into something that you can actually explore, and have little out posts and what not, then yea; that would be an amazing title... but if they are going to turn a 'spin off' into the ugly left in the closet red headed step childs (Wii) main FF franchise then so be it, I'll buy it anyway and conclude whatever it leads me to conclude.

I'm sure hoping they revisit the Ogre Battle games, I honestly believe that if they took a view at their SNES/NES library that never saw light on the PS platforms and brought them back on the Wii, they could have the formula for success. At least that's my pov.

I know I'd love to see a Act Raiser, I haven't looked enough at the big picture to speak out of anecdote on this though... but it would seem like the answer is steering them right in the face and it's whispering. "Ressurect your SNES/NES IPs in a Wii style dumbass!" (Yes it whispers loudly)

to hell with Squeenix, they need to get their sh!t together and release something that will actually sell like they want. like FFXIII (which i'm no longer buying) where a 3 yr delay from the release of the consoles it's coming out on is UNACCEPTABLE!!!! or a FFVII remake that everyone is clamoring for, zarking idiots wouldn't recognize a marketing opportunity if it bit them on the ass....
