Forums - Sales - Square-enix We need 2-3 million sellers ... NOW

I think everyone is ignoring the real issue, and it's the same one many other developers are facing: development budgets have raised so high that games need to sell multiple millions of copies in order to turn a profit. The problem is the audience interested in said games hasn't grown to match this need.

true, and even worst tis gotten smaller since the HD console market will never be huge this gen

Eh, that's what they get for stabbing Sony in the back like that, right?

It'd be even worse on the PS3 system... if anything it shows WHY they are "stabbing sony in the back."

Why, Square Enix have not released any games on PS3 yet, so we don't know how it will do, and it already has a far far far bigger install base in Japan.

The two RPGs that SE have released on the Xbox so far have sold 0.13m for IU and 0.15m with TLR in Japan. White Knight Chronicles sold 0.2m first week

To my knowledge Lost Odyssey is the highest selling jRPG with 0.87m, which sold well because it was good, TLR and IU have not sold so well because they are not very good, but there is a good chance that WKC will beat LO. Releasing IU and TLR on PS3 would boost their sales, but I fear SO 4 will suffer without a simultaneous PS360 release, but it should do better than the last 2

Well, their wii efforts so far show they're gonna need to do a lo more to convince people that they're worth buying. DQ:Swords, no thanks!

@Kasz216

How do you figure it would do worse on PS3?

So far a non S-E JRPG has outsold each S-E JRPG in Japan this gen for the 360 if I am not mistaken. Scratch that, it actually outsold every 360 JRPG in Japan far this gen. In 2 weeks no less. Not to mention with a low Famitsu score of 29/40 which had people on this site saying WKC sales will drop because of this. Hmmm, what if it got a 38/40 like TLR did?

So the reason they are stabbing Sony in the back is because 360 will bring them lower JRPG sales? Sounds like a stupid reason to me.

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

Anyone getting turned off by all these companies coming out constantly it seems stating how they need us to buy so and so and so much. Or they in deep trouble and need this game to sell. Some of the games I might be iffy on and if a company comes out bitching or crying about needed something from me is making me almost not want to get the game. Just make the game as best you can and advertise normally. don't try this free whining advertising, it is a turnoff

What happened to the gaming business being bringing in more revenue this year/christmas than like ever and the gaming business seems to be the only one not really affected by economy.

 I agree with you here.

It is almost like that thread yesterday about the developers of "Deadly Creatures" pretty much saying "Buy whatever we throw out there or we will make mini-games".

If Square would actually put out some decent content on the Wii they'd be getting my dollars.

Mind you I own just about every square product for the ds :)

The only teeth strong enough to eat other teeth.

then why make ff 13 multi-platform, you wanna tell me that ff13 on ps3 won't sell 2-3m, heck it will sell a min of 5m.

The big issue for SE is the "worldwide" part. Because aside from Final Fantasy, their bread is buttered in Japan.

Can Square Enix hit it big with a new IP outside of their home country?

This I believe is what they are attempting to do with the Dragon Quest series by putting it on the DS and Wii and with the "advertising" nintendo hinted at it looks like they are going to try to make Dragon Quest as or nearly as popular as FF worldwide. I hope they can cause I love both franchises.

Satoru Iwata is brilliant, the only reason why Dragon Quest is still small here is because Enix didn't bother until the merger, Square was smarter, they made a deal with Sony to massive West marketing and publishing, FF7 became huge because of this and it brought them to the mainstream... Ninty is doing now with DQ what Sony did in the past with FF and worked great...

I'm not sure it can catch on with the Wii masses. Dragon Quest is one of those franchises that probably won't ever be made easier and "casualized" because Japan likes it the way it is. Every one of them is a grind.

Not any more than Pokemon. I'm playing DQIV DS right now and grinding is, in a word, minimal.

They'll get their five million seller when DQIX lands, I'm sure. As for everything else... well, their priorities are just wrong.

Also they ma need to trim some fat and stop producing six FFXIII games at the same time.

You're entire post is full of win. lol @ 6 XIII games at once when there having a hard time with 1. :D
