This is has turned into a "he said, she said" (or rather, this site said, that site said)

I know a lot of you want LBP to "fail" though, so I understand why you're so adamant

Actually, if anything I think it's a lot of people wanting LBP to succeed, which is why people are so adamant defending it. If the game weren't exclusive, would people care so much about this?

It can't be denied that Kaz's quote is a pretty solid argument for LBP being overtracked. I wouldn't say it's definite, but it's certainly not something that can be ignored.

My favorite is how every other site is talking about how well this game sold at 1.3 million.

Which is very good for the genre.

Possible for anyone to answer the question in my previous post?

I don't usually get too involved with statements like these until recently so I don't really know if they ever use "sold" for one thing and then "shipped" for another in the same press conference.

For example when Microsoft gives out their numbers, do they sometimes give "sold" numbers for let's say the 360 and "shipped" numbers for the Zune? Or are they both compared exactly the same when it comes to the type of sales?

iPhone = Great gaming device. Don't agree? Who cares, because you're wrong.

Currently playing:

Final Fantasy VI (iOS), Final Fantasy: Record Keeper (iOS) & Dragon Quest V (iOS)

Got a retro room? Post it here!

It's so hilarious that everyone is rushing to say how horribly tracked this game is, but whenever NPD numbers come in, no one can say anything about over/under-tracking.

The lengths people go through to downplay any Sony success makes the people on this site look so sad.

Actually, yes, they still can. NPD's numbers are trumped by Sony's own shipmet figures.

Who knew, right?

Uh... dude.  We're talking about a representative of the company....

A company that often lies to make itself look good.

Maybe your fanboyism is kinda... blinding you to why Kaz saying 1.3 million would make people think we overtracked...

Put it this way.

What would you think if one of the Bungie guys came out and said "We're very happy Halo 3 sold 7.5 million copies!"

Would you think we overtracked it?

The companys numbers trump a trackers numbers... since they can't like about them.

The best they can do is mask the numbers.

If the numbers are WORSE.  You can gurantee the tracker is wrong.

Get used to it, xbox had rough first part of year. I guess it's payback.

They are always shipped.

Companies don't know how much of their product has reached consumers hands.

Companies ALWAYS say sold... and they mean shipped.

Unless they got that number from a tracking firm... which nobody does world wide tracking outside of VGchartz...

There is almost no way they'd use that info.  Using your shipped numbers is all that makes sense.

Each company whether it be Sony, MS or Nintendo have a data base that tracks exactly how many units they have sold to retailers. This is normally what they report since it's 100% accurate and up to date.

Consumer sales on the other hand is much more difficult to track since it involves collecting data for thousands of retailers. This is why they pay a firm like NPD to acquire the data, since it would be too much work for them to collect the data on their own.

One thing we do know is that when Sony/MS/Nintendo says a title sold a certain amount world wide and they're bragging, unless they quote NPD they're talking about shipped numbers ("sold to retailers").

So, yes, LittleBigPlanet is over tracked here.  Get over it.

That was weird. >_>

Anyhoo, Kaz said 'played', that's all I'm saying, and I'd like to reserve judgment until we get someone to say 'shipped'.  If someone says '1.3 million shipped', then that's what it is, but he said 'played'.  So sue me.  >_>

Most people were spoiled by nintendo numbers, i guess that's why people think it's low.
