Possible for anyone to answer the question in my previous post?

I don't usually get too involved with statements like these until recently so I don't really know if they ever use "sold" for one thing and then "shipped" for another in the same press conference.

For example when Microsoft gives out their numbers, do they sometimes give "sold" numbers for let's say the 360 and "shipped" numbers for the Zune? Or are they both compared exactly the same when it comes to the type of sales?

Each company whether it be Sony, MS or Nintendo have a data base that tracks exactly how many units they have sold to retailers. This is normally what they report since it's 100% accurate and up to date.

Consumer sales on the other hand is much more difficult to track since it involves collecting data for thousands of retailers. This is why they pay a firm like NPD to acquire the data, since it would be too much work for them to collect the data on their own.
