Forums - Nintendo - The flaw in the Wii which makes surpassing the PS2s sales even better.

How many PS2 sales were from repurchases anyway?

Considering that the average ps2 user had 2 ps2's, then it's easy to get the number of owners. Just divide by two. :)

I don't think that is entirely fair ...

I personally think that we have probably seen about 25% growth in the number of console users every generation since the NES, and the explosion in the number of consoles sold in the Playstation generation was from people owning multiple consoles. Some of these consoles would be people replacing broken systems while others would be from people owning two systems from different manufacturers.

Now, if my estimate of 25% per generation is correct that would mean there was between 60 Million and 80 Million second consoles purchases ... and about 30 to 40 Million (or 25% to 33%) of PS2's were replacement systems.

Your argument makes sense. But the Wii has expanded video gaming to beyond just gamers. People who never owned a video game console will buy a Wii. That may just be enough to put them ahead of ps2.

ya know your right

how many sales were people just going to a new machine or going down to the slim when it hit teh shelves.....hmmm

i think teh wi might be able to smash the ps2 if it could follow same path of a slim release

If a pc with the specs of one from 2000 was made with todays technology had software tailered for it and wasn't reliable.. then i would worry.

Check out my game about moles ^

I'm just hoping for some kind of firmware download that will brick my console. It's not too late, Nintendo!!

hmm wonder how many of the 138 million PS2 sales are rebuys?

I have bought 2 atleast, don't think I'll buy another Wii......black Wii... oh forget that I will buy another Wii

The only thing the Wii has left is colors, I mean a slim version of the Wii? harldy.

There you go. Nintendo gets people to rebuy their systems by changing their color.

One has like a .001% chance or whatever for their Wii to break.

Somehow I had mine repaired twice... talk about luck huh?

Although like someone else said, they always do it for free, slap a new warranty on that sucker and even paid for me to have Next Day Air both ways so it was only a 4 day total ordeal.

They make you send it in?  I thought they sent Mario to your house wearing a mechanic's suit carrying a little toolbox.  Somewhere along the way, I've been mis-informed..........

They did send Mario, that is why I said "Next Day Air". He came pimped out, complete with a racoon tail and pretty yellow cape.
