Forums - Gaming - Serious question for da Wii h8ers

Wii motion and pointer control is often annoying and unneccesary in many games. I can't count the amount of times I've wished that gathering starbits in SMG was automatic or MP3 was dualstick or mouse controlled.

Frankly motion and pointer control only works when it's used in limited situations such as in Zelda:TP. Keeping the remote pointed at the screen is very annoying to me during long play sessions.

As for the question, I won't be buying another system like the Wii any time soon, so I'd wait and see which had the most games that interest me. I fully expect all consoles to have more motion and pointer control next gen, but I don't expect them all to be as casual orientated as the Wii.

Oh, also I'd buy a PS4.

That's funny.  After playing MP3 (and RE4) with Wii Remote I can't count the number of times when I'm playing Fallout 3 and run out of Action Points so can't use VATS and so just run around trying to dogde bullets until I get some Action Points back because I now find aiming with a control pad totally retarted.

Answer 2:What games are coming to each?
Answer 3:What you do with motion control?
Answer 4:Can my 1 year old kid play these games? (Coz by then I have found my true love)

Take my love, take my land..

I won't give a shit as long as I don't have to dig through a pile of garbage to find a good game.

Imagine the year is 2011.

You drive home from work in your 2012 Honda Accord. I know it's only 2011, but the 2012 models are already out.

You turn on your HOLO-TV and the newscaster, beamed into your living room states, "The Xbox 720 and Sony PS4 were announced at the Cannes Game Festival today. Both feature motion controls, small size, minimal graphic upgrades, and come packed with a collection of fun games anyone can play. They will both compete at retail for $199"

What is your initial reaction?

Does it have HD?? Does it have awesome online? Does it have good hardcore games that people who own PS360 would expect as oppose to it being littered with trash kiddie-games? Will it do 1080P? Will it have the high-def movie format built-in?

Will the motion sensor actually work well this time as oppose to gimmicky wiggle?

If all of those are yes. Then Yes, I am buying it.

Soriku (Feb 10/08): In 5 years the PS3/360 will be dead.

But I dont think they will take it as the extreme as the wii did...I mean the controllers will probably just be an improved sixaxis...

If you can't manage to use traditional controls, even though every console has used them since the very beginning, the issue is with yourself, not the game.

O and I would never game again...

FWIW, I actually don't think this is too far from the truth. For starters, the problem with the improvements being made on the graphics front is that the budget to produce games that maximize the graphics horsepower has ballooned to Hollywood movie-like production levels. GTA IV reportedly cost over $100M to produce, market, and distribute. That's insane, and the economy behind the gaming industry just isn't going to scale when too many of these games start getting into budgets beyond that.

My contention is that the next generation of consoles will certainly see gains in the GPUs, but it will be of a much smaller order of magnitude than it was this gen. The next iteration of consoles will, however, see their normal jump in raw CPU horsepower though, because the next gen consoles will need powerful CPUs that can code/decode multiple MPEG streams simultaneously WHILE you're also playing games.

At least, I'm 99.9% certain MS is going to want to make the next XBox also be a more fully featured media center and PVR. TiVo, Slingbox, Apple TV, etc are all threats to MS's goal of controlling the living room.
