Forums - Nintendo - Millions Sellers: Wii (41) vs Gamecube (39)!

Someone has notice Wii has now more millions sellers VS gamecube?

Wii: 41

Gamecube: 39

And now the most interesting parts!

3rd parties millions sellers on Wii:  24/41 = 58%

3rd parties millions sellers on GC: 13/33 =33%

3rd parties + WII = $$$$$$$$$$$

More million sellers are found on the most successful console in one generation than arguably the least successful console of the previous generation?

Shocking.

@WoW

Um, games tend to sell over time, so even with the larger userbase, that does note = instantly more games over 1 million.

@OP

I honestly think 3rd parties on the Wii can do very well with casuals, they are new and not condition to buy things only Nintendo. Most of them dont even know how to tell who the publisher or developer is... They just go bad advertising. At first Nintendo was the only advertsing... now 3rd parties have begun.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

The likelihood definitely increases with a large userbase.

I'd love to see some counter examples where a console with a smallest userbase in one generation had more million sellers than the console with the highest userbase the generation before.

Yea but even though there is a big difference in userbase the length of ownership is quite low.  Only 14 months ago the wii had a 13 million userbase, that's less than 1/3 of what it is now.

14 months is over a quarter of the generally accepted console lifetime (4 years).  Saying "Only 14 months ago" makes it sound like that's not a long period of time when in reality that's a very long timespan.  The Wii's sales are plenty impressive by themselves so don't feel the need to play semantic games to make it sound more amazing.

As for length of ownership, when does a console owner typically acquire the most games for that console?  I'd go with the first few months after purchase followed closely by holidays.  How about you?

I think many people believe that console lifespans are getting longer. Like, before it was no more than 5 years between new consoles, this gen I think we will see a minimun of 6 years (or maybe more for the PS3)

Fair enough, when I said "console lifespan," I should probably have been talking about the generation's length.  After all, a console can still be selling and receiving new games long after the next generation has begun.  The PS2 gives us ample proof of that.

You're comparing a console that is long dead vs a one that is growing at an incredible rate.  People pick up games over the whole lifespan not just when they buy it.  Half of the wii userbase has had their system for less 7 months.

There's really nothing more to explain, the ps3 has almost the same userbase now as GC, but it only has 24 million sellers to GC's 39.  The difference is in the length of ownership.

this is to be expected, after all the wii has sold twice as many units, I'm amazed it hasn't broke 40 1million sellers
