Forums - Gaming - (rumor) 1UP Sold to Hearst, EGM shutters

I used to like EGM, until I saw that they almost never review a Nintendo game without bias against it. That got on my last nerve. I am a multiple-system owner. I would like to know fairly what games may be worth buying and what aren't.

Goodbye, EGM. It wasn't nice knowing you.

Yeah.  They should have been more biased.

What turned me off to EGM starting in the late 90s was how outdated their issues were at the time. They would have features on events that took place months previously and even though I respected their reviews it was annoying to have to wait a month (sometimes two) after a game hit the shelves to read EGM's review of it.

I stopped reading the magazine not long after that but reading earlier this year that they admitted to making up many of the rumors in their rumor column really pissed me off. It's one thing not to be able to disclose information they know but to basically pull peoples' chains is truly insulting to their readers.

Yeah, Nintendo bias. They only magazine to give Wii Music an A-, B-, and C. When other magazines just gave it a 3/10.

They were just opinions, and I never saw any bias in them as a whole.

That was 1UP, not EGM, firstly. Different teams.

Secondly, that is the only game I've ever seen them review without bias. Go through and read EGM's reviews. Over the years, they've persistently reviewed a much lower percentage of Nintendo console titles than the competition, and they've persistently been overtly negative. I'd regularly read reviews on two titles - one on a Nintendo console, the other a similar title on a rival system - and they would complain about an aspect in the Nintendo game while ignoring the same thing in the other game.

This isn't me being a fanboy. This isn't me making up stuff. Pick up a freaking copy of EGM and see for yourself. It's there. Period.

Holy shit you need to stop saving Jpgs in paint man ! that's painful for the eyes. I mean just because it's a certain style doesn't mean it has to be fuck filtered in pixels. Use png. :p just a good advice

Check out my game about moles ^

I won't miss Shawn Baby though. That guy was a little pansy ass. The funny part of him was that he thought he was cool or something. He brought nothing to EGM.

If the team behind EGM decides to try and work on another magazine, hopefully he's left behind.

I'll come up with something better eventually...

Good riddance. They were a blight on the industry.

This sucks. I love 1UP; I agreed with most of their reviews, and their podcast was pretty cool especially during TGS.

EGM was my favorite mag growing up. Especially when I found out Gamepro was using their reviews and just rewriting them. I don't really care about 1up other than their podcasts. EGM will be missed by me and my friends for all the great times back in the day.

Love the product, not the company. They love your money, not you.
