Digi-Guys: PS3’s Long-Awaited WarDevil ‘Progressing to Plan’ — This Year, Parent Company UTV Suggests Same

Wed, Dec 31, 2008

Analysis, News

Over four years ago, back when fanboys were still dreaming about the “Xbox 2″ and “Nintendo Revolution,” WarDevil wowed with stunning trailers and screenshots supposedly demonstrating the power of next-gen. IGN’s Hilary Goldstein proclaimed it “one of the most anticipated games of 2005.”

Rest assured, you didn’t miss WarDevil in 2005 — or since. Every so often, developer Digi-Guys has chimed in long enough to let the gaming community know that “it’s still coming,” dropped a new but very familiar-looking trailer, and then faded back into obscurity. This year is no different: we received such communication and trailer from Digi-Guys this morning, and you can view both after the jump.

But this year, an interview with UTV — the company that owns Digi-Guys and publisher Ignition Entertainment — suggests that we might finally see WarDevil in 2009.

Digi-Guys sent GameCyte the following message this morning:

We’ll be releasing new material in 2009, but when/how is in the hands of our Publisher - therefore, we must keep to their schedules.

WarDevil is progressing to plan - it has a long development process as we’re creating an Engine, a Game & Short Movie and each of these elements can take a lot of time on their own.

When I asked to be put in contact with their publisher Ignition Entertainment instead, I received the perplexing message:

Ignition won’t be able to release any details about WarDevil, that all comes through Digi-Guys (now through TeamWarDevil).

Most of the reason we can’t release material is linked to their plans.

The virtues of bureaucracy, I was afraid, would keep me from providing GameCyte readers with any real information. But just then, another message floated into my inbox:

WARDEVIL CHRONICLES

To round off 2008, Digi-Guys is launching a WarDevil related mini-site, featuring some all-new teaser content.

WarDevil Chronicles is a companion piece to the main WarDevil Project - how it fits into the main storyline & game content, we’re not at liberty to divulge - yet.

For now, enjoy a sneak-peek of WarDevil in a 2D animated style at www.wardevilchronicles.com

As 2009 unfolds, there’ll be more ‘Chronicles’ materials released, alongside all new Games & CGI content from the main WarDevil Project.

Happy New Year from TeamWarDevil!

It seems that the “Short Movie” the team was referring to just might be an animated feature.

While this latest trailer does nothing to prove that there’s actually a game in production at Digi-Guys, the WarDevil team did offer their first official denial to recent accusations that the game is vaporware. “Recent forum postings have no basis in fact,” they told GameCyte.

And as I mentioned earlier, this year UTV seemingly upholds the reality of WarDevil as well. In an interview with India’s Business Standard (via GoNintendo) CEO Ronnie Screwvala mentioned that the company intends to release three “original,” “high-value intellectual properties” for PS3, Wii and 360 in 2009, one each developed at the company’s London, Japan and Florida studios.

Digi-Guys was previously revealed to be that London studio.

So, is Wardevil exclusive to the PS3 or is it multi? I mean the info about this game is pretty basic at best!

This game has had such a weird development cycle.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."
