Diddo on the Wii Sports Controls. That would kick some major hippopotamus balls.

Gametrailers have a few videos too . The trailer explains the controls. Although I like the idea of introducing smashes and lobs, it appears the game doesn't use the nunchuck and, as such, you cannot control positioning on the court. Never played the Gamecube version and I am still not sold to this one.

Hrm, that's tough then. Without moving your character, it still isn't much different than Wii Tennis. I'm holding out, but still hopeful that this game will be greta.

Without the ability to move your character using the stick i can't see the point. That's half the skill in Mario Tennis, the rest being shot selection and timing.

They may provide multiple control schemes. (which is what I'm hoping for) 1st one would be similar to Wii Sports Tennis but more depth. The second would be the same as the original, but added support for motion controls for swinging, power, and direction. The 3rd would be the most in-depth with swing, power, spin, direction, and lob/straight controls.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

Potentially good news - according to Amazon.com's product page, where you can preorder the game:

"attach a Nunchuk controller for additional precision"

It seems to me that this added precision must mean controlling your character's movement, as there really isn't any possible application of the nunchuk in swinging. The fact that the current Japanese TV spots only show the Wii remote still seems perfectly reasonable given the usual emphasis on simplicity in their advertisements.

IGN also makes this assumption:

"Mario Power Tennis will support play both through the Wiimote on its own and through a Wiimote/Nunchuck combo, the latter presumably allowing you to control your characters on the court."

the article is a bit old, however, dating from early December.

^^That sounds more promising, still not sure if i'll get it though. Does anyone know if there is a pricing strategy yet for these Cube Wii-makes?

$30, so a pretty good deal if you ask me.

I actually would argue that the tennis in Wii Sports is already very deep if you spend enough time with it; you can control lobbing or net hits, force, place your shots with great accuracty, etc, all with precise motions. The lack of control of your character's movement really only helps you to focus even more on the swinging, and makes it so that my girlfriend, who has little patience for the typical convoluted tennis game controls, can compete equally (she's actually quite good at it, and has just picked up the "feel" of different swings and ball placement without having to memorize any button combinations).

I would, however, love to have an additional game with nunchuk control, tournaments, crazy power shots and all that. So $30 seems like a steal, if it in any way lives up to expectations.
