I can think of a lot of silly ways to spend money, but why on earth would someone pay to buy a new guitar that looks used?

Because they think it looks cool. I think anyone who thinks they're cool by buying a worn guitar is a complete tw@.

I'm going to agree with tombi here, it's because they think it looks cool.

It's the "vintage" thing, where instead of searching out an item with a history, they just make something without one look like it has one, like those intentionally brand new torn jeans and more recently brand new torn shoes.

The good thing about the new used clothing is I can walk around in my torn up old clothes like a bum, but actually looking stylish. People can't tell my clothes are authentically beat up ;)

I don't see any advantage to the guitar at all though.

A guy I used to work with, Mik, brought a custom made new 'used' guitar. It was a Fender strat. I thought the same thing as you guys at first. But the attention to detail was incredible, it was as he wanted it down to the last detail. He even wanted it smelling of tobacco and beer, like it had been to a thousands gigs played at dives, and it really did.

To be honest it was a brilliant guitar and looked amazing, I have worked very hard to keep my guitars looking new, and looking back now I wonder why I have done that?

Makes me think of 90% of jeans that are for sale.

Maybe I should buy new instruments, use em a whole bunch, and sell them as "new used". I could probably make good money that way.

Come to think of it, has anyone tried this with jeans?

Maybe someone wants to have an old looking guitar, but can't afford to collect a real 60's vintage one? That's all I could come up with. It reminds me of people buying prints of old advertisements.
