I don't think the PS3 will be discontinued anytime soon, at least I hope not.

PS3 will sell for at least another 3 or 4 years. I believe PS3 and XBox 360 will leave the console generation at the same time in 2012/13 when the next consoles have been launched and are into their second year.

I am waiting for PS3 to fall in half of its current market value within 2 or 3 years time and then I will buy one for sure and most of PS3's top games will be out by then. $200 for a Blu-Ray/PS3 console would be a great deal.

No that would cost more or add more to the losses.

if the ps3 is discontinued i think sony will cease to exist as an independent company. i highly doubt it will happen though.. sony may be in rough times right now but it is still a MAJOR company

PS3 is going to be around untill the end of this generation, there is no point for Sony to discuont this product, they still are a major corporation that can afford a massive flop and try to recover their losses to the maximum (not like SEGA which had to do it), the failure of the PS3 might have an impact of eventuall release of PS4 or the charatcter of this console.

i hope not, i still want to buy of one them. i think that sony will pull through, and keep going with one of its most popular studios. i need to try out gt5 someday as well.
