Also, why should I be happy that the gaming market has experienced an increased spread to the casuals? How do I directly benefit exactly?

Too tired to write a well thought-out reply, so I'm stealing someone else's. I hope he doesn't mind.

"What you fail to understand is that the videogame industry is a fragile young medium. There was a time when it was very possible that video games would simply go away. For people who remember this period, it is very important that video games establish a foothold in the popular imagination. Even if the video game industry never suffers another crash, it is very possible that like comic books, it could be seen as an irrelevant, niche industry for children and man-children. A lot of people don't want to see that happen, as it would have a corrosive affect on the breadth, depth, and quality of video games available. So having games like Wii Sports and Wii Fit, which appeal to mainstream audiences serves to advance the shared goals of the industry. These titles increase the financial strength of the industry by bringing in more people while appealing to the exact audience that would be the first to criticize and marginalize the video game industry. And while you may not like these games, wiser gaming enthusiasts realize that we all benefit from an industry that can support a greater variety of genres and appeal to a greater number of people."

Wii Sports is a Demo Disc.

Not to pick on Sega4life -- but this is the opinion that a lot of core/hardcore/snobcore gamers have about the Wii and Wii Sports.

I heard one Game Stop employee complain about it, how it was just a tech demo.  But people play it, have fun with i get infected by it, and become players.

And while the article lost all credibility mentioning the "Madden franchise," at least it does not complain about Wii Sports being a pack-in.  (If it were not, it would only be at about 20M right now -- based upon the Japanese purchase rate).

I wonder what some other places think is worse -- Wii Sports being No. 1 or VGChartz getting positive pub.

I like to jump around, and would lead a fairly serene and aimless existence if it weren't for my friends always getting into trouble. I love to help out, even when it puts me at risk. I seem to make friends with people who just can't stay out of trouble.

That's all you need to know about the article. He at Matt Peckham (at PC World) are among the founders of the US Branch of the We Hate Wii Club.

they are gonna claim the games suck and that the Wii is a DEMO for real life so it's not a real system.

"Sure, it's a video game, but I don't think it can be compared on the same level with games like Super Mario Bros. or any title in the Madden franchise" Wow, I loled.

Took me a second to comprehend those bloded words, it still doesn't make sense.
