Still have my dreamcast and play it regularly. Great console for the far to short a time it was out.
Now why should someone shut up if they think DC was the best console ever?

Sorry I didn't play it, but judging from sales numbers, I'm not in the minority here.
I'm just wondering why people love this failed system so much.
Some of my best gamer memories are on that console, a few of its titles keep me from having to get a PS2 until my Dreamcast broke down, I was complete with it and the Gamecube.
I think it was really a machine ahead of its time.
Onyxmeth, you've summed it up nicely. You managed to condense the Dreamcast experience into one paragraph. Don't know how you did it, but it could not have been stated better.
Edit: Should have quoted you, people are responding to this thread at insane rate.
@Frybread
You have never played the console and you made this thread. If that isn't an Epic Fail, I don't know what is.

People tend to romanticize failure. That's why Gone With the Wind was about the South, but nobody gave a damn about the North. That's why kids wear Che Guevara t-shirts but not Fidel Castro ones.
But mainly the Dreamcast fucking rawked.

In this case, the system failing has nothing to do with the system itself. It really had excellent games, too bad you
did not get to play any of them.
Really sad Sega could not compete against Sony´s money and strategies and of course against its own mistakes.
Just compare the launch titles of the Dreamcast with the ones from the PS2. The PS2 gets totally annihilated.
I had a Dreamcast and bought a PS2 shortly after it was released. I believed
Sonys marketing hype of the PS2s emotion engine with photorealistic graphics and all the crap. The first games on the PS2 were a plain disaster.

Well, I pretty much aggree. I wouldnt call it the best console ever, but the reasons why it is loved so much...
- It was cheap to buy, so you would never regret buying it
- The technology was way ahead of PS-Saturn-N64 gen. I remember comparing Gran Tourismo with Crazy taxi graphics and I was about to throw up after gran tourismo.
- It had very good games in a very short period. Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, 2K Series, Virtua Tennis, Powerstone, Sonic etc.
- It gave us a drastic graphics boost back in 1998 and it was the king till Xbox or Gamecube was released graphics-wise, because most first gen. PS2 games were not as good as DC games.
- It had online play back in 1999, I remember playing Unreal Tournament days and nights!
- Thanks to windows CE and homebrew, it was a very flexible console with many emulators and programs.
