If Playstation is sold it wont be the same, it will lack elegance.
I like the way Sony roll with the Cell/Blu-Ray etc.
And you can be sure a PS4 not made by Sony will not be as sexy

Why exactly?  Say for instance Apple did buy the playstation brand, it would be even more flashy than it is now.  Ipods are very sexy, and apple sure knows how to make things look purty!

No, Apple like white things, i like shiny black XD
Its just personal preference.
My Walkman looks better than any Ipod
I like the look of Vaio laptops more than Macbooks

I think its to do with japanese culture. Japanese electrical stuff always looks and works fantastically.

And I dont think Apple would make a technilogical masterpiece like the PS3......its clear how they see gaming with their Ipod Touch games

What if they did sell playstation? Is there anyone who could successfully take the playstation brand under their wing at the moment?

Apple, Philips, Samsung, maybe some Chinese brand. There are enough comapnies that would benefit from a good "all round entertainmant" brandname.

However I think it's unlikely that the Playstation brand will be sold at the low value it is right now, where it used to be worth much more. The sale of studio's and IP's is much more likely

Wouldn't that kill the brand? I mean unless their just selling the sucky IPs, but then who would want to buy those? If they are selling the studios witht he IPs then I see a hungry Microsoft in the wings. I also have a feeling Atari may buy some of their stuff since their run by a former Somy head. It could be a way of saying "See I'm doing better than you!" Maybe those people that left saw this coming.

Obviously it's not ideal, but fact is that Sony has trouble and they have to do something. Of course selling IP and Developers isn't beneficial to Sony, but neither is selling the mobile phone or TV division. Plus that there are actually quite some potential costumers for I'P and studio's. Microsoft, EA, Activision, Nintendo, Ubisoft.

Well this is all your opinion. To me Vaio laptops look a lot like many other laptops. Macbooks however have a distinct look compared to them.

it wouldnt suprise me if sony pulls the plug ont he money sucking playstation brand. i mean how much did they lose this year and last together? was it in the billions and maybe close to a trillion dollars? stocks are dropping and the sony name is being drug through the mud along with the playstation 3. if sony doesnt pull the playstation for good then i think sony itslef will fold before this gen is up at hte rate of loss they are taking and their tv and stereo and other divisions that are making money cant compesate for that.

Quote of the year!!

Oh dear, this is bad news but not unexpected.

Business is business and if a product line loses you 1bn and there is little hope you'll turn it around quickly then say goodbye to it.

Think this is it for the PS3. They should discontinue it and sell off the Playstation brand to someone willing to pay for it.

I am largely platform agnostic. I fail to understand why some people get overly fanboyish about what is an inanimate piece of electronics that's obsolete even before it's launched, when there are far more important things to champion, such as preventing environmental destruction or preventing millions of people dying unnecessarily from illnesses. This fact however, doesn’t mean I am not someone who doesn’t enjoy gaming as a pastime (as I have done for the last 20 years) or doesn’t have a strong interest in how the market is evolving – hence my presence on this site.

Platforms owned – PC, DS, X-Box 360, PS3, PSP and Wii.

We are getting a little ahead of ourselves. The PS3 being discontinued is a remote possibility, I don't think it's the best decision. They should cut their losses on PS3 alright, but that just means following a different strategy with it.

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.
