Forums - Gaming - Does the PS3 really need saving?

@anyone opposed

I am not embarassing myself. You guys walking around like you don't see whats going on here. I did not say there is just a all around hatred for PS3 here in america. I can tell you why this treatment for Sony and the PS3 only and not Nintendo...

It is because NINTENDO and the Wii are not MS direct competitors, the PS3 is. THey do not see the Wii as an interference the the progression of the 360, which it really is not. The Wii sells to a different class of people. THe PS3 sells to the same audence as the Wii. Yet somehow all of a sudden you guys forgot that when I bring it up. W/E

And the reason there was an insurmountable amount of love for the PS2 was because it came out FIRST last gen, and had the most games, much higher ratio of games released on it against the XBOX vs the ratio of games released on XBOX against the PS3. PS2 had everything a gamer wanted and then some. XBOX simply could not compare. PS2 had 1400 games to the XBOX's 600 games.

And the other really big fact of the matter is THERE WAS NOT A RECESSION GOING ON WHEN THE PS2 AND XBOX CAME OUT!! That is a trait of THIS gen. The US didn't care about making American companies succeed then because we were in a really good place. Cant say the same for us now.

I Hope you guys didn't think I wasn't going to have a comeback?

Sony's gaming division is bringing down the company with its huge losses and you want them to drop the price of the PS3? Fucking amazing idea, it's a wonder how you aren't all in management.

its been an interesting discussion all around but i can't side with cloud here simply because the Nintendo Wii is marketed as the absolute hottest must buy thing in America and its a japanese product. its selling through the roof and constantly sold out.

Did you ever stop and think maybe just maybe americans prefer the 360? the idea seems impossible to you or so it sounds but maybe americans just like 360's games / controller / online / whatever more?

In terms of sales it's not doing awful. In terms of profits it's doing terribly. I love how his solution is 'Drop the price and spend a ton of money on advertisements'. At the current price, keeping the PS3 afloat is a major strain on Sony's budget. To drop price 100$ would likely sink the company.

 And this is what fanboys especially deluded PS3 ones will never understand. If price dropping meant you would not lose anything and make loads of cash we would see consoles cost just $1 each! The reality is consoles cost money to make, money which comes from the companies pockets not from thin air as people try so hard to make it sound like. If the PS3 is losing at minimum $50 on every PS3 how does having a $100 price cut = profit? That would mean every PS3 sold will cost Sony $150. That means every 6666 PS3 sold will make Sony LOSE $1Million. It does not take a scientist to work out losing money = bad. The PS3 does not need saving just like the Dreamcast didnt need saving. Eventually you get so far in the minus $ that you have no option but to call it a day. 26 months on release and Sony has not made 1p from the PS3, that is how bad it is.

So you're expressly saying that the media is run by Xbots bent on Sony's destruction? And you really don't feel embarrassed to assert this? Wowzers.

And, actually, there was a recession when the original Xbox launched. It was short-lived, though, so it's hard to count that against you. Especially in light of the jaw-dropping insanity above.

the ps3 is dying very fast. i mean did they even muster 1 million units in the month of december at all?? and im talkin world wide. to me that is failure to teh fullest. the biggest problem is the fact that sony is promoting blue ray player in the ps3. now explain to me why you would go ou tan dbuy a 400 dollar system that has the same basic games ont he 360 for half the price and you can get a blue ray player for about 200-300 so teh ps3 to me will be dead by teh end of the 2009 year the ps4 will be out in 2010 or 2011 or sony is cutting their gaming division all together.

Your entire basis of me being wrong seems to be that you dont believe the 360 gets an exclusive favoritism in the media over the 360.

I gave numerous examples of the obvious bias yet no one seems to be looking at that. JUST LOOK AT SOME OF THE ARTICLES blasting through the internet. And you can honestly say that all those articles are truly warranted? So are you telling me you have NEVER seen an article on the PS3 that didn't give it the benefit of the doubt as the 360 got?

AND there was NO recession during PS2's reign, which the XBOX's life coincided. How were we even remotely having money issues? Gas Prices didnt start to sky rocket until after Next gen had started. The XBOX was already dead by then.

The primary reason why Sony is facing the blunt of negative press is that it fits into the storyline of the crisis that the media is currently following. The massive losses Sony faces, Sony restructuring, and the failure of the PS3 at market fit nicely into tons of stories about how bad the economy is at the moment.
