Forums - Sales - VGChartz vs. NexGen Wars

As a games developer I find VGC far more useful than any other freely available stats on sales available. Comparing VGC with NGW is just plain stupid. The only thing NGW has to offer is a forum where you can see what all the rabid fanboys are chatting about for the time being, but sales numbers?, not so much.

I'd really like to see software sales numbers for europe (aka 'other' grrrrr) though!

I find this quite funny, i wonder if jas will come back

With regard to Call of Duty 4 having an ultra short single player campaign, I guess it may well have been due to the size limitations of DVD on the XBox 360, one of various limitations multi-platform game designers will have to take into consideration-Mike B

Proud supporter of all 3 console companys

Proud owner of 360wii and DS/psp

Game trailers-Halo 3 only dissapointed the people who wanted to be dissapointed.

Bet with Harvey Birdman that Lost Odyssey will sell more then Blue dragon did.

HE probably got scared with everyone talking about the degrees they have or are going to school for.

wow when I saw this thread got to three pages I was expecting a flame war of epic proportions, but instead everyone's talking about their degrees?

anyway, I figured I would mention I never meant that NGW was copying VGC, nor was I trying to compare the two, I was simply noting that after saying so much that the VGC numbers were completely wrong, they now suddenly seem to agree.

Help! I'm stuck in a forum signature!

I don't even want to go to NGW. When I try, my browser informs me that it may harm my computer.

You're right that you can't time the events nor can you predict how long it takes to respond/recover. But if certain events do happen, since markets are usually efficient (strong, semi-strong, and weak), it's hard for one to consistently earn money (to short it if it crashes). They may earn it couple times using analysis tools and with luck, but there's no way to earn money every single time. But if we know normally what trigger things, even if you do not make instant money out of it, you can statistically analyze whether you should worry about it if you plan to invest <1 year, 5 years, 10 years. The benefit I see is to give you a better position than other investors who do not have that information. It can't guarantee you will earn lots with that info, but for sure, you should be able to invest in a better performing portfolio with less risk (beta) than the rest of the market, which is filled with casual investors as well. That's how I would answer it.

yeah, i see your logic.  ultimately, a lot of time it's the traders that make the call if certain events are "triggers" and to either identify or anticipate them and it gives them another weapon in their arsenal.

the Wii is an epidemic.

Anyway, what exactly is a Wharton MBA? (Excuse my ignorance being british)

Wharton is a prestigious business school. The alumni say it's the most prestigious. A Wharton (or other Ivy League) education is a useful tool when you've said something flat-out wrong or ridiculous, because then you can just wave it in the air and brush aside criticism, like Oxford and Cambridge grads do in your country.

Wharton isn't Ivy League.

 Yeah, it is.

Desroko is right.  It's University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business.

Currently loving my Wii x2, Xbox 360 Pro & Xbox 360 Arcade, and Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children Limited "Cloud Black" 160GB PS3

GAMEFLY & GOOZEX FTW

Anyone else notice that Nexgenwars has been flagged by google as having "bad ware" on the site? Just do a google search for Nexgenwars and its the first link that pops up and if you click it Google comes up with a page warning you that the site contains bad ware. Although I prefer Malware myself.

NexGenWars is poo, a waste of time

Wharton is a college in U Penn? Didn't know that! Then you are correct, thanks.
