I don't think the perspective matter too much,although if it ain't broke don't fix it. I think most importantly is that is keeps the same game play mix of shooting, searching, and problem solving.

I kind of feel like Metroid would be walking a fine line with being little more than a Sci-Fi Zelda if it became 3rd person.
Crusty VGchartz old timer who sporadically returns & posts. Let's debate nebulous shit and expand our perpectives. Or whatever.

Lol. Castlevannia has also had shitty 3D games which is why people keep saying more 2D games. I say stfu and let 3D come. All it takes is for one developor to get it right and wow everyone. Some people simply will not accept a 3D Castlevania. I dont understand. Im not say be uber hyped just keep an eye out because you never know. |
Screw 3rd person adventure games Mini game collections appeal to way more people. Only a few people want to play Third Person Adventure games anymore. Metroid: Raving Metroids should be the next installment.
@Voltaire
Again. You never know what they can do in 3rd-Person. The visors innovated. What can they do to innovate in 3rd-Person? I dunno but Id like to see.
@OP
So you want Zelda with a gun?
The key difference between Metroid and Zelda is that Metroid 3d's have been in first person. Otherwise the gameplay is very similar to a Zelda.
Metroid 2d though is in no way similar to Zelda. ^_^
Sadly Metroid caught the stigma of being a Halo killer, it seemed that everyone though that since Resistance was supposed to be a Halo Killer than Samus Aran was now a Halo killer, truth is Metroid has nothing to do with the FPS genre, and to many people corruption was a miss because it lacked the features of Halo. Really it was never intended to be an FPS outside of being in FP.
So the next step for Metroid?
Knowing Nintendo I'm figuring there wont be too large a change... however I could give them the benefit of the doubt and say that maybe now their software guys have wrapped their heads around the Wii and will start making Wii games rather than just Nintendo games.
I'm Unamerica and you can too.

Look Vlad! She's waving at you. Go mack it to her! As a quick add on, it would be an awesome twist if the baby turned out to be an alien bore from the Sigourney Weaver Alien series and it busts through Samus' chest at the end instead of her giving birth as your love is holding your hand ever so gently by your side. His final task is to travel with that silly android with white blood and fuck up the Queen Alien once and for all.

No way... You can tell I'll be stuck on the bad ladder as an intellectual whore.... Just look at the way she's looking at me....
Even better, then we can have a Predator fly down on his ship while yelling "A NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHES!" after which her love resusitates Samus and she dukes it out with the Predator. It would be an orgy of plasma, flame, and shaprp spiky stuff, until they both realize how perfect they are for each other and it becomes an orgy of another sort!
Onyx... I feel like we're taking our first steps into creating the best story-line ever created in a video game...

To keep this in the spirit of Metroid, I brought some toys for you. I suggest you use the one on the top row in the middle with an "E" on it. The boot isn't bad either, but it leaves a wicked itch if you're sensitive. Avoid the black ball and Samus lightning bolt combo on row two at the right. It's only for masochists.

I saw a magazine cover rivaling those Metroi/Halo/Killzone. I couldnt understand it..made no sense
OT:I dunno. I still think its bit different settings/weapons and all. Im saying theres plenty of room to do some good stuff in the metroid universe with a 3D perspective.
Metroid is in no way anything like Zelda, 2D or 3D. in Zelda games you progress through dungeons filled with enemies and puzzles, do somthing a bit different, then repeat. In Metroid games (with the exeption of MP3) your dropped in a huge world and have to search it to find suit uprgrades, and then use those to keep searches places you couldnt before.

You do realize the weapons in Zelda work in a similiar way, right?
