Forums - Sony - Sony on the brink of corporate upheaval, drastic changes

Remember though that the PSP was not profitable when Sony first launched it, the PSP might be help offset the PS3 loss now but back when the PS3 launched the PSP was not much help at all and made worse by crappy software sales.

The PSP is having a disappointing year despite the success in Japan. It's looking like the PSP will fall well short of estimates for the fiscal year.

All start up PS3 costs- R&D on PS3 = X billions. (undisclosed in financial reports)
Losses on PS3 sales = 3 billion dollars.
Total amount of losses and R&D costs of PS3 = X billions + 3 billion dollars.

PS3 is Sony's 8 to 10 billion loss burden. Sony has fallen since PS3 was launched.
Sony fans go on about XBox and XBox 360 costing MS $5 billion dollars. PS3 cost Sony double that amount. Blu-Ray has been a high risk investment from Sony. All the eggs have been put into one basket.
Sony is struggling to stay alive in the video gaming industry. Sony has to remember it has limited financial resources. MS on the other hand have virtually unlimited financial resources. Going head to head, blow for blow, price cut after price cut with MS could be the downfall of Sony.

Your trolling is getting VERY tiring.  Now you're just making up numbers!  Sony never lost anywhere close to 8-10 billion on the ps3.  They only lost a bit more than 3 billion.

From Neogaf:

FY* Sony** Nintendo Microsoft
1998 974,000,000 629,000,000
1999 1,130,000,000 645,000,000
2000 730,000,000 421,000,000
2001 -409,000,000 726,000,000
2002 623,000,000 800,000,000 -750,000,000
2003 939,000,000 560,000,000 -1,191,000,000
2004 650,000,000 316,000,000 -1,215,000,000
2005 404,000,000 777,000,000 -485,000,000
2006 75,000,000 894,000,000 -1,262,000,000
2007 -1,969,000,000 1,489,000,000 -1,892,000,000
2008 -1,265,000,000 2,480,000,000 426,000,000
2009 51,000,000 1,026,000,000
Totals 1,953,000,000 10,762,000,000 -6,369,000,000

also why not start with near term, say this gen MS will still be losing money. the near term will show more what sony is looking at right now, feel free to put full corpate rates on there too..

start with 05 for MS

because of they way sony does years 07 .... as winter 06 was mid 07 on their FY

the same for nintendo

so   -3,213,000,000 for MS

-3,285,000,000 for sony

       4,995,000,000 for big N

now consider the health of these companies outside of this ...MS, okay, but not doing as well as the past... N well this is the company and things are rocking... sony major issues low margines in need of a major reorg to make profit as an entity

All you people talking about how much money Sony has need to shut the fuck up since you know dick. There will be closure and my guess is that the Ericcson division will be first.

Funny, I could swear Sony is a publically traded company, therefore forced to release data on cash, debt and lots of other things every 3 months.

Spoken like a true 13 year old. Great analysis. *sigh*

Sony is definitely in some trouble. Hopefully they'll divert all resources to the gaming division and focus on putting out some great titles for the PS3, instantly catapulting them back into the black. Or so the catapult visual tells me...

That is true, but Sony are now at least selling the PSP for a profit so even selling 1 helps. It might not help enough but it still helps. Sony just needs to launch their future products at a profit from the beginning, like Nintendo do, and then Sony will be fine.

You are right no one is immune from the pain, but comparativly speaking, Nintendo is so much better positioned to weather the storm you cannot help feeling that if conditions ever get bad enough to seriously hurt Nintendo, Sony will already be history.

True if situation get bad enough for nintendo to lose money than more than likely sony will go under and nintedo cash on hand alone is enough to buyout a large portion of sony now if they wanted to thats how bad things are.

I TAKE NO SIDES
