Forums - Sony - Sony on the brink of corporate upheaval, drastic changes

Anyone who says "So long as the gaming division isn't touched" - are you pretending that it probably won't be touched? I mean, that is a form of pretending! They've had huge losses for a while now, and it's one of the most cash-bleeding parts of the company.

Man if you are serious, this is going to seem like a very rough year.

And with them saying they need to focus on software it is almost thinking we may have another Sega on our hands.  No PS4, and who knows what happens to PS3.  But they will keep making games so why should anyone care.  Would Sonics games be a billion times better on a sega system.  No they would be the same.

Well, the Sonic games on the old Sega systems are about a billion times better than the Sonic games they made since they went software-only, so your argument really doesn't hold much water :)

agreed.  and i think thats a good thing.  All these people that are saying they don't want the gaming division touched i don't understand.  While yes SCE has made some killer games and have more coming sony has done a terrible job with marketing and are bleeding cash right now.  I hope they do a full restructure of the gaming division.

I think Sony Ericcson and Sony Walkman needs to go under the axe.

"We'll toss the dice however they fall,
And snuggle the girls be they short or tall,
Then follow young Mat whenever he calls,
To dance with Jak o' the Shadows."

It dosnt matter what department or division. They all will be looked into. All division and departments will get cut back in one form or another.

I TAKE NO SIDES

My prediction for what Sony will do with SCE:

Keep it. They'll scrap other divisions and sell various intellectual assets for finance but since they wouldn't get a good price for SCE they'll cut their losses. ie. They'll continue to produce the PS3 but won't drop the price unless it's selling at a profit. They'll continue to make software, but more conservatively. Lower budget, lower risk titles. They'll lean on third parties for bigger titles. They will not spend money on R&D for future consoles until they are in a more stable financial position.

A game I'm developing with some friends:

It is largely a technical exercise but feedback is appreciated.

Not trying to cater to expectation of fans. At the moment its more about big investors, shareholders, and maybe even not by a long shot corporate takeover or merger, and staying alive.
