We were using an Apple airport for a while and the thing worked like a charm for our PS3 ^^ however, some of the other computers in our house were supposedly suffering because of it (which I think is bs and my roomate just hates wifi and mac's).

But yeah I rarely have issues like that, our internet is fickle though as we have many a roomates who enjoy unlimited use of bit-torrent >_>;; so sometimes it's a connection issue simply due to bandwidth >< But if I"m ever having trouble connecting to R2, I try resetting the system and it usually works just fine :P

Yea, bit torrent would do that to a connection.  Outside of just eating up the available bandwidth on the line, if the ISP detects that you are using that protcol, they will clamp down on you.  They may not admit it, but they will throttle your connection big time.

@RPG oh I know it man. Sometimes when certain roomates are not here, we'll test out the connection and be running at a full 16mbps. Then sometimes we literally can't even get the test to budge >_> And our roomate will bust in with great news about how his 39 gig download is going so fast!!! -_-!@#$!#@%@#$@#

I think we need Fios >_>

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

I've had no luck with PSN since I got my PS3. My connection (NAT 1) is impossibly slow, except for on a few occasions when it's been merely insanely slow.

It's a shame, because PSN has some rad games but it takes forfuckingever just to download even a small one.

Yes, it's been like this for quite some time, i'm thinking about making a wired connection but i don't want another wire in my room >.<. Soon as i get this problem again, i'll reset my router, do the IP thing and see how it goes...

And disabling the media server didn't worked

Sorry for the rude thread title, i was really angry at the time lol

Eww. A wireless connection. Yea it could be the router that you are using. You may need to do some research for the wireless router you are using. I know Apple Airport and few other wireless routers don't play nice with Sony products. I would look online and definately see if there are any firmware updates for you router.

As network professional in the industry, we have a few year to go before wireless connections become acceptable in my book for online gaming. It great for surfing and light media and file transfers but do to the signal strength, bandwidth limatation, and encryption requirements, not the best choice for online gaming.

Weird, I game all the time on wireless, and I never have problems... maybe you were still using wireless b?

All I got to say is, do a ping test with a wired connection and wireless connection in household (even use a class "N' router/wireless card), and see what kind of latency you get back.  Nothing beats a correctly wired connection vs a wireless.  Its just too much noise and crap that goes on in the air when dealing with wireless connection for optimal performance.

Ping test on wireless to vgchartz, min/max/average: 82 / 98 / 87
Ping test on wireless to the router, min/max/average: 1 / 3 / 2

Ping test on hardwired to vgchartz, min/max/average: 82 / 96 / 87
Ping test on hardwired to router, min/max/average: 1 / 1 / 1

Using a wireless g router and network card, current signal strength, low (i'm on the other side of the house from the router.), speed 24Mbps

I agree that hardwired will keep you closer to your ISP's maximum speed that you are paying for, but by no means should wireless impede your online gaming, as no game requires that maximum speed (whatever it may be) to run online.
