Yeah i'm unsure of how many comapanies and people are involve in the profit sharing of blu ray. I just know some of the companies including. Unsure of how many there are involve total that gets a cut.

I think Sony thought of the bigger picture which was blu-ray. Do they not get some money for every blu-ray film and player sold?

The PS3 is suffering because of the price, some time or another that will be fixed and Sony know that. Also Playstation brand is big and this is what Sony are still hoping helps them, I cant help but think at £200 PS3 will do very well.

 

Sony does get money for blu-ray disc and player sold, but the reality is they are part of the blu ray group and there share is divided among every1.  Sony only gets a bigger slice of the pie if its there on  film or player that are sold are there own, which was what sony was banking on as well as higher hd tv adoption rate.

 

But they are the largest % of that division, Sony get the most money from blu-ray sales. Sony also have a film division which will push it, disney are no board etc so no matter how one looks at it Sony done well with this one. DVD must have made an incredible sum of money, cant really ignore that cash especially when your guaranteed to win.

 Sony never expected the PS3 to sell like "hot cakes". They expected to launch at a loss to bring Blu Ray into millions of homes while their videogame system's name took a nose dive. In otherwords, "suicide mission". :)

Don't forget sony favorite saying "sell 6 million console alone without games, and peop will even get a second job to get a ps3."  I'll never forget that saying.

 

 

 I was pissed off beyond words when Kaz Hirai opened his mouth. I felt like punching the little faggot. RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDDDDDDDDDDDGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEEEEEE RRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAACCCCCCCCCCCCCCEEEEEEERRRRR!!

 

As much as i love sony as a company I dont love them as much anymore cause of that saying alone.  that alone made me just wanna kick him in the nuts.  I still like sony but that was an outrage.

 

 Sony never cared about videogames to begin with. It was all about being a conglomerate and using it to control formats for the most profit. Kutaragi talked Sony into entering the realm of videogames and Sony laughed at the idea. They've been using each system to control format sales. Notice every gen they change format because the gens lasts 6-8 years. This gen was the most apparent suicide.

I'll admit that Microsoft isn't the nice image of what a corporation should be, but they've given a damn about videogames for ages funding gaming wayyy before the Xbox.

I fully agree with controlling formats by Sony. Same goes for Microsoft funding gaming for Windows.

Sony really MUST develop next PS4 using Nintendo approach: focus on some really good new feature appealing to users and affordable by release time and simply upgrade the rest, improved CPU with the same architecture, more RAM, same optical drive (only speed improved), etc. This way development could cost 1billion or little more, avoiding all the financial troubles created by PS3 and giving also full BC.
