Wow....I didn't know that the end of this gen was the end of 2009.

Yeah, it isn't even going to happen by Dec 2010.  By that time it will already be time to start seriously talking about the next XBox and the PS3 passing the XBox 360 by that point will be moot.

It is possible at some point for the PS3 to outsell the 360 by 350k per month at some point, but up until that point the 360 is going to continue to consistently outsell the PS3 and that gap is just going to increase and get harder and harder to fill.  I'm not saying it's impossible for the PS3 to outsell the 360, I'm just saying it's likely not going to happen by 2011 and when/if the PS3 does the 360, it's not going to matter.

Even if the PS3 catches up to the Xbox360, MS still wins. MS goal was to stop the domination of the Playstation brand and they did it. Of course the Wii is on another level.

My guess is they will finish like 45 - 55 million units

*edit* so both finish around 45-55 million, that would mean MS doubled the sales, while Sony lost 75% (!!!). Besides that MS managed to establish great franchises like "Gears of War" "Fable" and "Halo" Every single one of them can sell around 4 million and the showed that former PS-exclusives make their way on the Xbox360 (GTA, Devil May Cry, Tekken, Final Fantasy) That will help for the next gen.

That's true. Bonus for MS, IdK how but the media jumped on this PS3 hate bandwagon that WILL translate into the next gen, especially in NA.

PS3 already lost the momentum to beat Xbox360.
Now, it's just to keep the gap from growing and try to stay afloat and not lose more exclusives.

OT : Sony may never catch up with the 360 , the economy will effect Sony far more than MS so my optimism concerning ps3> 360 is almost dead. But the future may hold some suprises.

the thread isn't the issue , it's you . I won't deny being a Sony supporter , somewhat bias but i stop short  of being anti 360/Wii and give credit where it's due.

Yeah PS3 will not catch up to the 360 any time soon and Sony realize that, they want to make profit not gain install base at this point. A $300 PS3 would change everything but once again that means Sony lost another $100 for every PS3 sold. I would like a PS4 not a PS3 at $200 outselling the 360 thus lowering the chances of a next gen Playstation console due to huge losses.

Sony learnt a very tough lesson, that when you release a console at £425 people are not going to buy it. The PS3 will still get all the multi-plats and you wont see COD, RE, FF etc going exclusive to the 360 so nothing for PS3 owners to worry about.

More 3rd party exclusives on PS3 might go on 360 but they will still be on PS3, just some kids wont be able to say "HA HA YOU CANT PLAY THIS GAME!", so sad. :(
