Forums - Sony - I think i know why sony made the 160gb...

After doing some thinking i thought a bigger hard drive is the only difference

A bigger hard drive doesnt cost much more for Sony so i came to the conclusion that the reason they released the 160gb SKU was so that they could charge a higher price for something that seems of good value to the consumers but also either cuts their losses or makes them a small profit per unit

your thoughts...

If so why isnt it marketed very much

and when it was annonced wasnt it announced that it would be silver what happened

But sony need to bring the Price of the PS3 down and not up.  Anyway I did read somewere that sony bought the 160gb PS3 out to test the waters and see if people would buy it... maybe for the long awaited movie service?

PC gaming rules.....

Did you mean to say that they could keep charging the same price justifying that there is a bigger hard drive now?

160 gb sku is great thing for them - hdd adds maybe a few dollars to the price, and increasing value by bundled games is also dirt chip for them.

Also it's probably only sku where they make money on console.

They couldn't cut the price, so they tried to add value.

It makes their top unit seem better than the rival's. 160GB or 120GB. Which would you prefer?

That sounds reasonable.

I know... my english sucks

Well, it comes with a game too, but still, they're definitely making more profit off the 160GB:

Extra $10 for larger hard drive
$60 for game.

Except 60$ is the retailer price, my guess is that bundling Uncharted in the box only costs them 30-40$ extra.

Then you have the small cost of the HDD and the voucher for PAIN, so my guess is that this SKU is breaking even, maybe making a couble of dollars in profit.

I got the 160GB model after I discovered that Oblivion Gold Edition had a significant install of 5400 MB Minimum...
