Forums - Website Topics - Winantivirus 2008 pop-ups

I'm using opera browsing this site and seem to be getting Winantivirus 2008 popups.  Anyone else having this problem?

I should warn people, if you see a pop-up that has the name Winantivirus or says something about cleaning your system, disconnect from the internet before clicking anything.  Otherwise, you a risking an infection.

Is that the thing that says "ZOMG YOU'VE GOT LIKE 20,000 BUGS PUT IN YOUR INFORMATION TO GET THIS SOFTWARE SO WE CAN SAVE YOU OMG"?

My dad got something like that a few weeks ago and actually put his info in, but due to some insane amount of luck on his part it never went through. I still looked at him like :l when he told me about it though

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

yea, it is kinda like that

I browsed the site some more and they no longer came up. It's odd, because vgchartz was the only website I had open when the pop-ups started.

I'm not really worried since I use Ubuntu.

if all you are getting is a request to install Winativirus2008 to check your computer you aren't infected yet. just Alt-F4 the pop-up, and you should be good to go.

If you think you are infected, here is a link that provides a tool, and manual instructions for removing the virus http://www.removeonline.com/remove-winantivirus2008-org-winantivirus2008-removal-instructions/

Also, if you see that pop-up, please (after confirming you don't have a virus and vgchartz is responsible for the pop-up) pm ioi and let him know which ads and where on the page were displayed on this site at the time of the pop-up. Also, include your country, or he really can't do anything at all, since they are region based.

tell the boss :)

I think some of the add partners here are a bit "shady"
I do occasionaly get AV warnings about some adds here trying to download a trojan.

Yet, today, America's leaders are reenacting every folly that brought these great powers [Russia, Germany, and Japan] to ruin -- from arrogance and hubris, to assertions of global hegemony, to imperial overstretch, to trumpeting new 'crusades,' to handing out war guarantees to regions and countries where Americans have never fought before. We are piling up the kind of commitments that produced the greatest disasters of the twentieth century.

exactly why I keep asking people to pm ioi all the important information about ads currently loaded on all tabs when you see one of those pop-ups or a virus warning.
