Forums - Gaming - Its not developers, its Sony. I hate quincunx AA and heres why: 360 vs PS3

I think its time Sony fanboys move on and accept the fact the ps3 is never going to blow away the xbox 360 in terms of graphics. All the shit Sony spouted pre launch about the "power of the CELL" is bullshit. Much like when Sony said "The ps2 will have Toy Story 2 graphics".

Its been 2 years now, so if there was magic power to be unlocked developers would have started unlocking some of it by now. Sure they will get better at using the hardware but they will improve on the 360 also, negating much of the improvement the ps3 makes.

Its time to stop blaming "lazy devs", Sony should be blamed for designing the thing in the first place.

Once again it has been shown in these screen shots the cheaper HD console (XBox 360) out performs the more expensive console (PS3). Given the same game, same frame. XBox 360 images look much better graphically than PS3. This is the case in most (90%) multi-platform titles where the XBox 360 version looks better than PS3 version. However, 10% of the time the PS3 version does look better than XBox 360 in games such as PES 2009 and DMC 4 and a few other games.

LOL, it's not like this game looks like Uncharted: Drake's Fortune or Killzone 2 anyway.

Looking at the screenshots, it looks like a decent port. Another storm in a glass of water regarding a multi-platform game.

PS3 vs 360 sales

wow some of you people have no idear have you. This thread is not about which console has the best graphics its about how each console has its own way of producing those graphics lol. All this but look at mgs or look at uncharted lol your not getting it that has nothing to do with what has been talked about here. People can argue all day about which game they think looks better but its all subject as mgs gears uncharted all these bring diff strengths to the table(my opinion gears 2 wins but its just that opinion). When I first read SQ post I knew who would act stupidly and not get this thread and boy was I right lol. SQ I got what you are saying and I agree although I dont really mind it as much as I have yet to get a headache or anything.

@ celticlonewolf

We already know the PS3 and 360 are different devices and we already know there are many different anti-aliasing approaches. It's up to the developers to figure out which approach they deem more (cost and quality) effective.

So entirely contrary to the thread title, it's the developers (and their legacy technology) and has very little to do with Sony.

Those two games plus GT 5 and MGS 4 are just PS3 tech demos. If only all PS3 games were of the same quality as the 4 PS3 games MGS 4, GT 5, Kill Zone 2 and UnCharted that are expected to sell millions of PS3's on their own.

Its Saints Row, thats all Im saying.
I thought it was kind of blurred too, but I never had the same problems with any other game. MGS4 and Uncharted werent blurred so I blame THQ

Metal Gear Solid used Temporal AA (Whole set of different pros/cons) and Uncharted developers used MSAA IIRC.

Killzone 2 however uses QAA and thats my only gripe with an otherwise excellent game.

Your point is irrelevent. Killzone 2 is the best looking game i have seen on my TV (i have 360 aswell). Killzone 2 AA is impressive as anything when you consider everything else. I find that some 360 games look to soft on my TV due to the amount of AA which softens the edges to much. At the end of the day it is how it's used. I get fed up with things like this and pixel counts and shit like that. Unless you sit a freeze your game and go looking for these probelms you would never notice. As i said Killzone 2 is the best looking console game out there and thats all that matters in the end, games and especially the PS3 are being pushed further which is a good thing.

Even without a list. I think It's safe for me to disagree with your precentages.

We're judging a PS3 port of a 360 game. I just find that unfair. The only time I can truly say a cross platform game looks worse on the PS3 is when they are built from the ground up on both systems and actually looks worse on the PS3, I think GTA4 is one of these games. Looked better on the 360 to me.

Recall that the PS3's graphics structure was an 11th-hour decision (not literally, but relative to the hardware design process), the intention from the beginning was to get the CELL to handle everything, but they chickened out at the last second and brought in Nvidia to do the RSX.

It's amazing to me fans of rival systems still try to sell people this as truth....
