Forums - Gaming - Its not developers, its Sony. I hate quincunx AA and heres why: 360 vs PS3

Thing is you wouldn't know about the differences unless you look at them side by side on a computer screen.

Wow.

Even for someone like me, who is not a graphics whore, the differences between those shots are like night and day. Just open all the pictures in new tabs and flip back and forth inbetween them. The differences really pop out that way.

I much prefer the sharp 360 images.

You are probably right.  Especially for someone like me.

It is the developer, because if devs knew how to develop on the ps3, they wouldnt be struggeling to make it = the xbox 360

The only problem I have with this is that if it was simply knowing the console that mattered, Sony's first parties would have already made games that with graphics that couldnt be emulated on the 360. So far, they haven't.

MGS4, and UNC beg to differ..

@Squillium

Its not fair to judge a 360 port on the ps3, Its better to judge games that where built from ground up on both systems "Devil May Cry 4, Burnout Paradise, GTA IV , etc.."

No contest... the 360 versions is way better then the PS3 version!!

Proof - look at Shot #2!!

The doctor's scrubs look way better in white then blue!!

For this particular hand picked example, it's a choice between softer image and smoother edges or sharper image and more jagged edges.

Splitting hairs at this point really. The choice is probably better made by preference in controller and platform if you happen to have both.

These days I find myself buying PC versions of multiplatform games anyway since both my systems produce a sharper image with smoother edges at higher resolutions.

Even then I sometimes have a hard time deciding which version to buy since online communities (who I specifically want to play with) are another big factor for individual multiplayer games.

The PC still doesn't provide the best of all worlds contrary to what some seem to believe, even when gaming on a machine that cost multiple times as much as a console.

MGS4 and UNC do NOT look better then any game on 360. By your same argument, i.e. opinion I can say Gears 2 looks better then anything released on PS3 as well, and it would be just as true.

GOTY Contestants this year: Dead Space 2, Dark Souls, Tales of Graces f. Everything else can suck it.

@Greenmedic Just to be clear, I picked this game and these images to show off the issue of the AA modes (To me, perhaps others) because both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions were technically as good as each other with the only real difference being what I wanted to portray. Its still personal prefference its just my preferrence is NOT quincunx as it feels like it throws the whole image out of focus to me.

This isn't about one being better than the other, its like someone having a whinge about the Xbox 360 DVD noise.

Tease.

Its Saints Row, thats all Im saying.
I thought it was kind of blurred too, but I never had the same problems with any other game. MGS4 and Uncharted werent blurred so I blame THQ

Metal Gear Solid used Temporal AA (Whole set of different pros/cons) and Uncharted developers used MSAA IIRC.

Killzone 2 however uses QAA and thats my only gripe with an otherwise excellent game.
