Here's the entire interview:

During the end of the year interviews, Polyphony Digital president Kazunori Yamauchi spoke about his company a bit in this ever changing industry.  Of course, he talked quite a bit about Gran Turismo.  The first interesting bit is that GT5 may not make it out in 2009 afterall, he says they 'would have wanted GT5 to come out in 2009'.  2009 is definitely still the target time frame, but they may not make it.  He says its not due to any lack of effort, with the excepetion of 17 overseas business trips, the studio has been 'confined', hard at work every day.

He then lets loose a bombshell.  He says that while Polyphony is exclusively in charge of car games, the company wants to make a new, distinctly different game.  So could Polyphony be expanding their horizons and entering some new territory?  Polyphony's notorious attential to detail is unparalleled, so a new game from them would definitely be interesting.

It looks like the title will make it out in late 09 at the earliest if ever this year.

Sony should definitely get this game out. It's one of the best system sellers and cash cows the Playstation has.

However, I don't buy that they're really as hard at work as they could, since I remember these news:

Looks to me like they were dicking around with technological masturbation instead of focusing on the core game.

They really have to get the game out and stop fecking around with Prologue's. This could really help the PS3's sales for this years holiday season.

That would be terrible for SCE if they did miss Christmas. This is one of their few tide turning cards, they need to play is ASAP. If they did miss Christmas they could be a half to a million consoles short of where they were otherwise by the time they release it.

As long as it comes out with day/night cycles, and weather effects they can take as long as they want. With all the time they are taking I expect to be blown ayway buy what GT5 has to offer. So until they can reach those levels, and they are not beyond the PS3's capabilities, I don't want to see this game.

 The game would sell even if it misses 09 christmas... I'm assuming this is Japan launch too and not Europe or US so I dont think GT5 will be out in 09

I haven't believed a single word polyphony has said since they jerked everyone with "GT - Mobile". It seemed like every year that game was supposed to come out and never arrived.

I wouldn't be surprised if GT5 shows up 2011.

I just hope the manage to release Grand Turismo 5 by Christmas 09 the latest. I think if it it is bundled with the ps3 and released hoiliday season, it will more than double weekly sales of the ps3 than during the release of mgs4.
